I seems like sales are oof this year. Been seeing a lot of tractors in the ads week after week and they are selling. Ya some are to high but even the ones that are in the ball park aren't selling. Is what is up with that? I know the $$ are tight but is it getting that bad.

Here in N Idaho saw a 52 8n the other day that was pretty beat up with oil dirt, grease and just generally dirty with, 12volt, beat up brush hog, PTO pulley rig, Front blade system hooked to 3pt, and worn down weathered tires all the way around for 5K. Also saw a worn out rusty 9N a couple of months ago for 3200.oo that didn`t sit there for more than a few weeks. Go figure?

i've noticed just the opposite ! i collect / buy / fix up & sell (only some !)the vintage farmall tractors ..... .and i've never seen prices as wild or demand as stong in the 6 years i've been playing with these tractors - it's seems like every one is makeing a "mad scramble" to "grab the last one left" - especially the rare ones i'll admit that Sales (& traffic) on YT has dropped dramatically since they changed there adds - but just watch the "wholesale" market on e-bay ..... restored M for $5400 ! "as is" SMTAD's for $7500 to $8500 - and even the "junk" is "over selling" .... and "live" auctions have been "way too high"

Fuel prices..... People have far less "expendable cash" now. I've noticed that stuff still sells for the same price, just doesn't sell as quick.

I do quite a bit of custom work during the summer. That's been down this year (so far) Several folks that have hired us to do bush hogging for years, are just letting it grow this year. My rates went up because of expenses, so they aren't having their ground mowed.

People that NEED a certain tractor will still buy.... Those who just WANT that tractor are thinking twice about forking out the cash now.

One more thing effecting USED tractor sales is the deals being made on NEW smaller tractors by most all the brands. In order to keep them moving, you can get great financing on new stuff. That, in effect, brings the price down for some buyers.

Bottom line.... If fuel prices would suddenly drop back to $1 gallon, things would open back up overnight... That just won't happen though..... ..... .

Actually I've noticed an INCREASE in pricing on the 80-140 horse power tractors - in all conditions.

That is probably the most popular size of tractor for USING on farms/estates/ect nowdays. They do hold their value well, and like you said, seem to stedily INCREASE in worth.

It's the 30 to 50 HP "older" tractors that seem to be taking the hit..... .....

I just bought another Ford N tractor yesterday. I look at a lot of tractors where people are trying to get back what they have put in to it but the tractor can not do enough work to justify the price.

I have to agree with you there. Many is the time I have asked a guy why he wanted $1000 over comparable sales for a certain tractor. The answer is always that he had to pay a guy to do this or that to the tractor and he had to get his money back out of it. Sounds good to him, but on my end I wouldn't have paid to have it done and don't want to take the hit because he did. Been looking for a Farmall B of late to work on. Take a look at the ones in the photo ads and you will see the problem with price. Then add shipping.

Thats like what a car dealer told me a few years ago when I traded in a car that I had just put a short blcok in. He said think about that last last calf you had sick, put $50 worth of drugs in that $400 calf, just to keep him worth $400.

Don't know about the used stuff but one of my brother-in-laws relatives runs a good size Deere dealership, and he said for a while now he's having trouble getting new machines, especially the mid size stuff, in to sell. What I understand he orders them for stock and then it takes forever to get them in. He says he's told them time and again he can't sell them if he doesn't have them there to sell but the situation hasn't gotten any better.

Some of it is the fuel too. It's hard to justify $1500.00 for hauling a $1200.00 hobby to play with. I think folks are asking themselves "Do I really need this or do I just want it?" Harley

Hauling made a big difference in my decision this year. I ended up paying the same for a bigger tractor from a local dealer than I would have for something I would have had to haul 500 miles. Either way I "paid" for the delivery but it was hidden in the price. I have also seen the demand change for mid size tractors, I bought 84hp.
