If anyone has over heating trouble like a john deere 1010 go to a auto parts store, one that sells race stuff preferably and get some stuff called water wetter. some how it lets heat leave the water better. I used 3 bottles and it works good. It isnt expensive either. That tractor was worthless but after that it was as good as a brand new one.

Were you using plain water in the radiator or 50/50 permanant antifreeze/water mix? What about the pressure cap? Was it working properly? Shouldn't need any kind of additive to transfer heat unless the water jacket is heavily rusted or limed up or the radiator pressure is too low.I'm glad the additive got you running again but I gotta' question why you had the problem to begin with.

The john deere 1010 had a radiator that was to small. I think the same one that the 420 uses so being a 4 cyl. it would over heat. Thats why after that they went to the 3 cyl. 1020. Also everything else is the same, same cap and antifreeze with 50/50 mix.
