Just now finished watching RFD-TV with Max Armstrong hosting a show called "American Tractor Special" and in the show he did a special about Ertl toy tractors and they kept bringing out that they were all made in America in Dyersville, Iowa. Back about 7 or 8 years ago, I bought a "Precision Series" Farmall F-20. When I got it home and got to looking at it, it says "Made in China." It is a nice tractor model and I have no complaints but why are they bragging that all their stuff is made in America when this one I own is made in china? Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks to all who respond.

By the way, I didn't get no deal on it when I bought it. Still had to pay $138 for it.
Mike

I saw that show. It is a few months, or maybe a year old.

The "made in America" toys they spoke of were Spec Cast - not Ertl. Joe Ertl started both companies. I beleive Spec Cast are made here.

I didn't see the show you're talking about, but here's a few thoughts....

1. The show could well be a few years old. RFD-TV does that.... A few years back, most of the die-cast toys were made here.

2. There's "Ertl/Racing Champions" (Formerly just Ertl) Then there's Joe Ertl's "Spec-Cast". Both are spin-offs of what was once the one and only Ertl Manufacturing. (LONG story...) Both are located in Dyersville, Iowa. Story COULD have been about either one. (Spec_Cast did the limited run "Max Armstrong IH M & H tractor set)

If those Precisions were made here in this day and age, you'd pay as much for them as a REAL tractor..... .. (sad but true)

I just bought an Ertyl precision 1/16 1937 long frame John Deere B and it is also made in China. Very nice model and very authentic. I agree; why not be truthful?

Until Racing Champions bought them out, most were! Certainly the Precisions were made in Dyersville, but now, they've decided that Americans would rather have lower prices from China, than pay what they'd HAVE to charge for US made models! It might have been an older show on RFD-TV, Those channels have a very limited amount of programming suitable for their use, so they may have had to use a rebraodcast of an older episode.
