Hi fellows,
I recently got my Moline running but have experienced a set back. It seems the bolt that locked down the distributor was loose and the dist. turned on me, knocking the timing out of whack. I can't seem to hit the right spot. Also, i'm not sure i have the points set correctly. I set them originally at 22 thousandths. Is this correct..? How would i determine TDC and where would the reference "notch" be ? I cannot see anything on the pulley to go by. Also, i had a needle and seat installed in the Tillotson carb that's on it but it seems to flood. I don't think the float is sticking. Any ideas...?

I don"t know that particular tractor so can"t tell you where the timing mark would be. If not on the vibration damper, it is porbably on the flywheel.

Remove the number one sparkplug and bring the engine up to TDC on the compression stroke. You will have to find the timing mark to find TDC.

After you have determined TDC, turn the distributor so that the rotor is pointing toward the number one tower position on the cap, then turn it until the points are just starting to open. That should get you close enough to get the engine running for proper timing.

I can"t help you with the correct point gap either. I expect someone on the Minneapolis Moline board could tell you the correct setting. When I don"t know the correct gap, I set the points to the approximate thickness of a well worn dime. That is generally close enough to get an engine running.
