Numerous places sell a device that attaches to a 30 pound propane tank and supposedly runs off or kills mosquitoes on a acre or less..... .....has anyone used one? I live in the land of 'skeets and 'canes and could use some help.

Have you consiered putting up a couple of bat boxes. that average bat will eat it's own body weight in mosquitoes each night...that's a lot of 'skeeters. Go to google and type in" bat boxes". That will provide lots of info on an eco friendly and cheap way to help control them.

We have 2 of thise units at a large farm/museum on the coast of Massachusetts. They do work as they kill a lot of mosquitos but still have a lot more. also expencive. At home I use 2 bug zapper type lights 110 volts and I like them better and cheep to run.

From what I understand about them, they do work, but you need to run it constantly, and it may take some time to kill enough so you'd notice. The more units in your area the better.

My understanding of the propane skeeter units is that they give of CO2 and heat. Mosquitos use both of these to target their prey. The propane unit basically puts off more heat and CO2 than even a group of people would thus attracting them away from you.

I read an in-depth report on them last year that declared that they do indeed work.

They can attract mosquitoes from quite a distance. In town the article indicated that they would rid your place of mosquitoes but would likely bring more to your neighbors as the mosquitoes crossed their property to get to your machine.

One drawback that I see is the need for chemical attractants in addition to the propane. It may be worth it to you if you are bothered.

You might try this tip--place white dinner plates around your property that have water on them and also a few drops of "Lemon Fresh Joy" dishwashing soap. Cheap enough to give a try before buying a machine.
