Being retired, and a non-sociable sort of guy (introvert), I would normally have no reason to use my computer and keyboard and it wouldn't be long before I was a hunter and pecker. Not much on email these days.

Thanks to this forum and you folks, not only do I learn great things snd have great comradeship, but I also keep the fingers limbered up.

So if you think I'm windy, just blow it off (if you would). I'm just exercising. Grin.

Thanks for allowing me to do that.

Mark

Yeah, the 1/2 year of typing I took in my senior year, on a Royal manual with no letters on the keys, comes in handy. Didn't use it for 30 years but it came back when I started typing. Wish I had some computer skills now too.

When I was a youngster, I was a whiz on an old remington typewriter. Now many years later I am down to the hunt and peck system. Takes longer and add a little time to half a** proof read what I wrote. I still mess up. Fingers dont work like they did when I was 17 and eyes dont see like they did at the same age. But helps to keep what sanity I have left.

Hey Mark,

My mom taught me how to type long before I can even remember her doing it, so it is like walkin' and talkin' to me.

Where my problem comes in is that I only have half of a functioning brain. Therefore, the words I type make absolutely no sense to anyone else. :>(

We all have our cross to bear. :>)

Can't believe that YOU, of all people, would have a dig on this. LMAO

I never realized when I took typing in 10th grade on Royal mechanical typewriters, that it would not only get me a wife (which it has) but also help me make a living in the computer age..... .computer?.....da whazzat?...duhhhhh ! Grin

Thanks,

Mark

I musta took the same class but I was in 4th grade. They bussed us to the highschool to use the typewriters.
I do tech support and we hired a guy about 6 months ago. I had to train him and the first day I had him on the phone with customers I realized he couldn't type. For the first couple days I did his notes for him because he was soooo slow. Finally I made him go out and buy typing tutor software... He upgraded to 2 fingers on each hand in 6 months, but his speed about trippled so I don't complain.

Took typing as a freshman, mostly cuz the teacher was a MAJOR babe!

It's been a handy skill to have ever since.

So was my Chemistry teacher. Boys in class would get hypmotised watching her backside while writing on the board.

She caught me one day and put me on her dunce stool she had in the corner of the room. We all thought it was funny.

Manual Underwood 5's, BTW. I have enough strength in my fingers to poke a hole in a soup can...

I'm with you on the old manual typewriters. I was in the last class at my highschool to use them. Typing on a computer is a breeze compared to those old beasts. I remember truing to break 40 words per minute and then hoping that your fingers would hold out. I could barely make to 40 wpm until the electrics arrived and then 60 wpm didn't seem too hard.

If you spend any time using one of those old girls, it will give you great respect for the ladies who used to work in the "typing pool" 8 hours a day.

I remember that 40 wpm was required to pass the course. And remember what a hassle it was if you made a mistake.

People today don't appreciate the beauty of the "Back" key on modern word processors.

And yes the pool girls were super.
