I need to know where to locate the serial # on a ford 901 powermaster(gasoline). I have also looked for the model # and what i found above two mounting holes and below air cleaner on the left side hand stamped is 741 over 5798. any help would be appreciated. thank you

If these numbers you found are on the trans right behind the starter(same location you described) you do not have a 901. You have a series 701, model 741 with the serial # 5798.
Should be a 4-speed with non-live pto.

I think these came with the smaller 132 ci instead of the bigger 800 series engine. About 32hp.
Somebody will come along and post the site that you can look up the sn on. I cant find it right now.
There is a sn/year button at this site down the left column but it doesn't make sense to me.

I believe that you're right (I could, hwever, be wrong too).

I think that the 701 was to the 601 what the 901 was to the 801... in other words, the 701 is a 601 only row-crop style (higher clearance, and a good chance that it's a tricycle).

Of course, if that's true, then your 701 (OK, 741) would be a Workmaster rather than a Powermaster...

Steve
