WD-9 missing

Hello: I recently purchased a WD-9 and it seems to have a miss in it when it runs. I really don"t think it is anything real serious like a cracked head or anything like that. (did some checking on that befroe I wrote the check.) Yesterday I loosened the fuel lines at the injectors and there was fuel at 3 of them but not the forth. Is is possible that this injector is plugged? Fuel line plugged? Not sure. There is also fuel at the final fuel filter petcock but not the primary fuel petcock. I am planning on new filters , cleaning the fuel sediment bulb (screen) as well as draining the fuel out of the tank and starting with new. The gentlemen I purchased the tractor from used it some but god only knows when the last time this stuff was replaced. It is a pretty nice old rig. Power steering and a hand clutch make it somewhat unique to me anyway. Any help or sugggestions on what to do or what might be causing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Forever Red, Maestro

I agree with KB - it sounds like the problem is upstream of the injector. (If it was a plugged injector you'd get fuel when you cracked the line on the non-firing injector.)

Gotta be either a blocked injector line (plugged or kinked....highly unlikely) or a problem in the injection pump itself.

If memory serves the pump on the WD-9 is an IHC-built, single plunger, distributor-type unit. Since the engine runs you know the pump injection plunger is OK. But for some reason high pressure fuel is not making it thru the pump's distibutor block and into the injector line for the bad cylinder.

You are probably best off to take the pump to a reliable diesel pump shop - one that's familiar with the old-style IHC pumps - and have them diagnose/repair.

Plunger stuck in the injection pump maybe? Could just be air yet. Try cracking that line loose at the pump and see what happens. If you get fuel that far, tighten it back up and crack it loose at the injector and run the engine for a while, it should bleed pretty quick.

Ok thanks guys. This is what I was thinking. I am also thinking the first step is to get clean filters and fuel in the thing. Who knows what is in there now. Should there not be fuel at the primary filter when I open that petcock? Secondeary filter there is. primary no. Please advise

Certainly your first step should be to replace the filters and put in some fresh fuel!

You should get a dribble of fuel out of that primary filter petcock. Most likely the petcock is plugged with a piece of rust, etc. When you change the filter remove the petcock completely, then poke thru the petcock and it's mating passage with a suitable stiff wire. Finally blow it out with air before reassembly.

Would this filter being plugged create a miss in the engine. If the plunger was bad in the pump itself would any of the injectors have fuel in them? The longer it runs the more it acts like it wants to come out of it. Advise
