I read on the labels of grease tubes not to mix greases with different "soaps," as they may be incompatible. I can, I think, understand that if I squirt red extreme pressure grease and white marine boat trailer grease into the same bearing buddy it might clump up and not get into the rollers like it should. But if I use up the four tubes of brown lithium grease that came with my new grease gun in the worn out old bushings on my backhoe that normally get a half a tube a day of the red stuff will that cause a problem? If the red and brown both say "lithium" is that the "soap," and are they then compatible?
Thanks for any input.
Wm

Thanks, y'all. I would have hated to throw away the rest of that tube, or tie up a grease gun for the ten or twelve years it would take to use it up on the boat trailer, which only gets used maybe once every other summer, and then pulled five miles on a dirt road. Probably with the H.

Any truth to the story that moly grease is best used in slow moving and very heavy load applications. And moly isn't recomended in wheel bearings?

I've tried moly once or twice on pins and bushings. I found it worked well, except it was a pain to use. In cold weather, it's almost impossible to pump. I come from the school of thought that if a grease is that hard to use, I'd better use another grease, 'cause I ain't gonna do the job often enough if it's that miserable. I don't think it would be good on wheel bearings either, as from what i've seen, it just doesn't flow.

electric clutch adjustment in reply to williamf, 04-24-2005 03:49:01
I need to set the gap and change the belt on my 1215 cub cadet. To change the belt I need to take the electric clutch off. Is there a holding place to stop the staft from turning to get the clutch off. Every time I turn the bolt, oif course the whole shaft turns. Any hints? Where do I set the gap for the electric clutch - I don't have a schematic to see where the magnet is at -any schematics available anywhere?

You're talking apples and oranges. Hub cups covering axle bearings aren't bushings on power equip. Agree with the Bus Driver. Grease em up.

I use all types of greases on bushings. When I do a hub, it is thoroughly cleaned prior to reinstallation so there is only one grease in there regardless of what I like. But I prefer the red high temp/press grease for everything and it is recommended for wheel bearings too. Whadda deal.

I just wish you could make greasing a lot cleaner. I wear rubber gloves and all and still get it all over everything; course I'm a greaser and I pump till I see it.....unless I'm greasing a throwout bearing (couple of pumps) or a boot on an auto/truck where I stop when I see it start to puff up.

For those bushings, using whatever grease you have should be fine.
