I thought maybe some powder coaters would comment here to defend the method.Guess not.

I think that that is how JD painted my 755 tractor. That stuff doesn't hold up at all and flakes off in sheets. Like so many new and improved stuff it doesn't live up to it's hype.

I agree with Joe.If it does chip, and its not as tough as advertised,it does not beadblast off well.Ive had to remove it with wood chisels then try to beadblast away the rest.I also feel it never achieves the gloss of paint if you want that overestored look.It has its place and Ive used it for battery trays and such.Paint will be cheaper to have done.I would think on a rim if there are any weak spots in the powder coat it might chip installing the tire.It is somewhat tougher than paint in general.

Personally I'm not all that "sold" on powder coating.Poorly done,it's no more effective than some modern paints.Even well done and properly baked,it will chip/scratch under rough conditions, and there is no economical"spot"repair for touch up other than complete removal and recoating.Personally,I'd put the money in quality hi tech paint or epoxy finish on anything other than a show trailer queen.
