I might be putting in about 10 acres of corn for the neighbor. What would a fair shares arangement be? How about doing it for cash? Plowing up old sod(been in hay 8 years) so it will take some work. I have been doing hay for them last 3 years so I want to be fair, but don't think I should give it away.

Thanks for the info,
Thresherman

We do 20 acres custom for a friend. Told him we would do it for fuel, but he wanted to pay the going rate. We charge $25 in and $25 for taking it out. No charge for hauling and no spraying. I generally pick the seed, spray and fertilizer, and he participates in the fun things (tractor driving), although he doesn't want to plant or run the combine.

A typical share arrangement here would be 1/3-2/3 or 1/2-1/2. If the owner provides the land and you provide all the inputs- you give the landlord 1/3 and pay all the crop costs and receive 2/3 of the crop. Half and half: you and the landowner each pay half of the cash expenses, you do all the work, and get half of the crop.

If he was close to me I"d do it for the cost of fuel. To me it would be a place to play with my toys.
