Can anyone tell me how to hook up an accessory cylinder? I want to run a woodsplitter using my tractor hydrulics. There looks to be a output under the seat to the right, and a return to the left. When I hook these up to the open center valve on the woodsplitter, the three point hitch goes up and down erratically and the cylinder on the woodsplitter barely moves. It is a small cylinder made for a small woodspiltter so I expected it would move a little quicker than it does! What am I missing here? Thanks!

First of all the pump only puts out about 4 gpm. If you are trying to run anything over a 2" dia piston it will take awhile.

If the aux access box (insert) is the standard box about 3x6x1, that mounts on top of the housing (between your legs at the front of the seat), it allows fluid intended for the lift to go elsewhere first; hence the necessity for the open center control valve which you said you have. As I recall the front port of the adapter is for the aux in and the side port is for aux out.

The lift arms must be somewhere besides full up for your aux to have any hyd pressure. I set mine half way down.

The lift and aux cannot be operated simultaneously. One control at a time since the aux blocks fluid to the lift when you have the aux valve engaged in the in or out position.

Want more, ask,

Mark

Needs to chain the 3pt down using that type of hookup I believe. Woulda been a lot better to use the hyd plate that routes oil to real ports, but it is what it is.

There is likely enough 'power' from the Ford to power a regular wood splitter with a big cylinder.

There is not much 'flow' and the wood splitter will run real slow. Would need about double the flow to work up to a useable speed for many.....

Then, if he says the hyd splitter uses a small cylinder - well, the whole thing sounds like it wasn't worth the effort, an old tractor with old pump needs a gigantic cylinder to make up for the 1500-1800 psi vs 2400 on new tractors....

A pto pump might be a good option at this point.

Might have to chain or bar the 3 pt in a fixed position so the oil goes to the splitter and not through the hitch.

Thanks! I just used two bars to lock the three point hitch arms in place (to the top link thing) and it works perfectly. It runs the cylinder lots fast enough and has ample power. I"ve seen them with more, but I have split a lot of wood with it already! The tractor is running at a fast idle and hardly works even when splitting heavy stuff. Thanks so much!
