Looks like we are going to be taking a vacation this summer, including a stop around Maynard Iowa to see my Grandpa's relatives. Anybody on here from the area? Any "must see" sights? I hope to spend a day or two around, seeing the relative's farms, getting to know distant family. Let me know if you are from the area or know good places to see.

I live in Fayette, about 7 miles north of Maynard. What are your relatives names, I may know them. Not much to see as far as "city" sights are concerned but there is a whole bunch of farming activity. What dates will you be in town?

I am not too concerned with city sites. Best way to see a city is in the rear view mirror as far as I am concerned...

My relatives there are the Lockards. My grandpa came out from Iowa to NE Colorado. If you know any of the Lockards, drop me an email.

I am inOelwein, just abt. 7 mi. S of Maynard. Not a lot of excitement around here. We do have an Amish settlement near here, with several stores, etc. Don't know when you are coming out this way, but our EAA chapter is having an flyin-drive in supper on July 16th. (Saturday evening) May be having an air show and car show with it.

Living History Farm in Des Moines is very interesting, as well as educational. Plan on spending the day.
