Many of the "old iron" machines came with nice attached tool boxes to hold things that would be frequently needed in the field. My JD 950 doesn't have one, and I'm frequently having to trott back to the truck for a wrench or lynch pin or whatever. I'd like to try and attach something. Can anyone give me examples of boxes that have worked for them and how they've attached them?

Whatever happened to the step toolbox in reply to Doyle Alley, 04-08-2005 13:01:36
Used to buy those diamond tread step tooxboxes for about $50,that were easily taken off the tractor when parked at night in a vulnerable location.Should have listened to myself last year, just by pulling and turning 2 latches.Someone got a real nice set of tools that belonged to me and a newly painted tool box.Anyway I have looked high and low and can't seem to find a new one.The manufacturer found ways to keep making them cheaper and cheaper. No wonder they quit making them.

I do it cheap and easy. Fasten a milk crate to the back of the seat with bungee cords and put a small box inside so the smaller stuff doesn't fall out. Plenty of room for my water jug and any other tools and stuff I want/need to carry.

I make an angle iron frame to hold a standard toolbox. That way I can have a box for each implement and switch it between tractors...Jim

I found a tractor tool box with a mounting bracket that allows you to pull a pin and take the whole box off, it was $10.99 from value built.

How about an ammo box attached to a fender.

Bingo. I have an ammo box clamped to the ROPS just above the fender. Piece of bar stock on the back side, two long bolts, coupla big fender washers and nuts inside the box. Wrapped a couple wraps of inner tube around the ROPS post to keep it from rattling and/or moving around. Works like a champ, keeps the tools dry, a squirt of WD40 every coupla years keeps 'em from rusting.

Not a lot of tools, but extra linch pins, hairpins, hydraulic swivel couplers, stuff like that.
