Can someone tell how to adjust the variable spd on a 112 John Deere garden tractor. The variable speed will not work in the first two notches of the variable speed in any gear.

With the engine running, place the variable speed lever in the 5th notch, below that is a snap in plug. Remove it, you will find a bolt head that takes a 3/4" socket, loosen that bolt and pull up on the clutch pedal. Then tighten the bolt.

Go to the JD garden tractor place..I think its a yahoo hoby group. Or get the operators manual. There is a very difinite way to adjust it just right. They tend to wear and get sticky. See if you can work some lub down into where the pulleys slide. I helped mine by adding an extra spring. You have to take the fenders off to see what I am refering to.

Deere has an excellent operators, parts and service manual all in one book. Call 1-800-522-7448 with the tractor's serial number. The proper set-up of these take some precise steps and settings. Is the transaxle in the front or rear position?
