Hi Guys,

Would anyone happen to have a drum retainer plate lying around that you would like to sell?

Sometime in the past thirty years, this one must have grown a set of legs and walked off.

Thanks,

Allan

I have an old Cyclo 400 (corn planter) setting in the woods behind the house. Parked it there when I bought my Cyclo 800. Plus, I have parts off of another 400 that I tore apart (row units and such). You are welcome to anything you need. I also have a few drums laying around (can't remember the exact number of holes, 124 I think for soybeans and a 24 for corn...? maybe!)

I have been thinking about advertising the Cyclo 800 for sale. I got out of farming last year, after 20 years and am selling off my equipment a little at a time (avoid all the capital gains taxes at once).

Let me know if I can help ya! (grain_farmer@hotmail.com)
I am working 10 nights for the next 2 weeks (12 hour shifts), so I may be a little slow to any replies.

I've got a few junked 400's here in Mn, could probably fit one in a big envelope. Let me know if you don't find one closer.

Thanks Tom,

The wife and I went out 'sniffin' around in the toolies yesterday and spotted one setting off in a neglected fence row.

I'm gonna try to talk the guy out of the retainer and also the 72 drop drum that is on it now.

If he won't budge, I'll ding ya.

Thanks, I appreciate the effort.

Allan

Hey Allen, try Jr. Koelzer at Centralia Ks. He salvages these and newer ones. He's probably got a dozen or two of them. Phone # is 785-857-3257. He has parted a bunch of planter out over the years. Don

Herb Theesfeld over at Rankin, Illinois would have many, but I realize you would have to pay shipping. He is very reasonable and probably has about as much experience with the old planters as you have. Phone 217-397-2404 or 217-397-2961. He can be hard to reach, since this time of year he is in the yard. One of those numbers I believe is is cell phone and he carries it on his cart. I saw your request for a drum, and he may also be able to help with this. Sadly last year I saw at least 50 drums at the junk yard for recycling. Not a thing wrong with them, hardly anyone uses the cyclo up here anymore.

Sorry Allen i don't have one and i don't even have and idea as where ya could find one unless they still have them new. About ten years ago i was on my way to the other farm that i had rented with my old junky 706 and ran into the local Case IH dealer while he was just turning into one of his fields and wehad a roadside chat and he was raggen on my old JD 1240 and was braggen on his new cyclo and that i should up grade well i do go thru the 1240 every year and make sure that it will get the job done and since 1987 it has planted around 600 to 700 acres a year and i don't need a pto to drive it and every year it does a great job and since we do a lot of planting at night as long as the old monator works she never skips a beat. but what pulls it has to be RED.

Yes Sir,

I think I'm the last guy on the face of the earth that still likes these old Cyclos. They are definitely out of fashion, that's for darned sure.

But, whadda gonna do? If it's in your blood, it's in your blood.

Try Meyer's Tractor Salvage.phone 605-225-0185. I'm getting my cyclo ready for some food plots this year. I finally found a milo drum for mine.

I like the cyclo for the simplicity and the easy maintenance. Almost nothing to ever fix. Just go out and plant.

MPK,

I agree. I get so tickled by the way the "Mob Rule" and the "Neighbor Effect" governs people.

It has just gotta be green and yellow. It has just gotta be a Power Stroke or a Cummins. Cyclos have bad seed placement. Cyclos are hard to maintain.

All total bunk. :>)

Probably said this here before: Used to see about the same # of JD 494 & IH 56 planters around here. Then saw like 8 out of 10 (conservatively) planting with JD 7000 type compared to the 400 cyclo - think I have only seen 1 500 series around here; the 400's left such a bad impression!

Then perhaps 6 of 10 JD 7200 compared to the 800/900 IH/Case series.

Now with the 1200 cyclos, I see 8 out of 10 of those compared to whatever JD is currently making for new machines going.

Most popular planter around here is still JD 7000 - 7200. But those newest Case Cyclos are finally making inroads for those buying new. It's been a long, long time for the red planting machines to be popular again.

My neighbor bought a 1200 series last year. Looks like a good machine & he likes it - now. Took him 2 weeks to get it working tho, I about had my corn done & he hadn't gotten 3 acres in & ended up with better yields with my little old 7000. Was just a set up & get things going deal for him, but sure was a struggle for him to make it work that first year.

I'm not into color wars, like to use a machine that makes money, I've got all colors of stuff around here. :)

Mornin’ Paul,

I hate color wars too; I'll "kid around " 'bout 'em, but I think the argument is just plumb silly.

However, you’ve gotta admit, that there is a lot of showboating going on out there.

All things being equal, a guy can make just as much (or more) off any given field using an old paid for $10K tractor and $2K planter as he can off that leased $200K 400-horse rig and his new bright and shiny 24 row $80K planter that he "just had to have" and so has financed it for the next 10 years.

Comon’ now, fess up.... :>)

I woulddn't know, my tractor cost $10,400 & the planter was $2500..... .

Haven't financed any machinery.

So, just can't compare. :)
