This isn't exactly old iron, but need to pick someone's brain. Have a 5610 NH. 2 weeks ago, just quit. No smoke from exhaust when cranked, figures fuel filter. Changed filter, cleaned water separator. Thought I would never get it restarted. Ran fine for 4 days, did it again. Opened bleeder screw, pumped primer a few times, started right up, ran fine till 2night. Pulled out from barn, then it refused to run over idle, no matter where you had throttle. After approx 5 minutes of holding throttle wide open, rpm's slowly went up to 2,000. Ran fine after that. Am I still just getting air out of system? Ready to get rid of d**m thing & just use the M.
Thanks for any input.

Thanks, everyone. In answer to some of your questions, it's a '95, spin on filter, temps are not a problem here now. I'm going to try another new filter, re-check every fitting, etc. Tractor only has 850 hrs, hope it's not something actually wrong with pump.

I'm just taking a guess, but it sounds like the metering valve in the injection pump is sticking. You didn't say what year model, but some of the later inj. pumps are very susceptible to this kind of failure. I have seen several cases like yours in the past two years, in all of them the pump had to come off for repairs. I think a lot of it is related to fuel quality (entrapped water settles out inside the pump and causes corrosion). I hope this isn't your problem, but be prepared.

Yea, sounds like a fuel problem from what you described, could you be sucking air into the fuel line someplace between the fuel pump and the tank?? don"t know what the filter is like on that one but could it be sucking air through a gasket at the filter, just something to think about.. I had fun posting this one with all the word filters on here, there is a word up above that the word filter didn"t like kept rejecting my little post, I like this place nice to read what people are working on but give me a break, I get enough of a chance to get mad at people at work during the day, I don"t like to argue with people on my own time, it"s easier to just get along with people, hope this works, have a nice day...

Unless you are 200 percent sure theres no air getting in the fuel system,I'd say you have an air leak somewhere before the injector pump.I'd start with another new filter and gasget, this time make sure the filter is full of fuel and put some motor oil on the gasget.I'm assuming it has a spin on filter.Take the old filter and dump it in a clean pan and look for water. Water will block a paper filter to the point fuel wont go through it at all. Just went through that on a cummins at work that someone filled a fuel tank with water as a joke "not funny".

is it cold where you are, i have seen a few tractors freeze up the fuel pick-up in the winter. water gets in around the pick-up, and will freeze it up. if not, it could be clogged up with dirt.remove the line from it, and fuel should pour out. if not, you probably found the problem
