Dad's been selling hay in Fennimore for the past several months. Two weeks ago, we bought a nice deckover bumper hitch trailer on a 2 5/16 ball to haul the hay. Racks are just not made for long road trips.

Anyhow, dad took that trailer up with hay on it and went back to get a rack of straw(gotta do what ya gotta do). When he got back up to the sale, he checked over the trailer and some SOB had stole the ball and the two pipe wrenches he left for the buyer. It's a total loss of about 20 bucks, but still.

How do these dudes look themselves in the mirror in the morning?

This might be alittle bit late.... A few years ago they busted a whole family here in livinston county. among the charges:
Stolen property: cars, trucks, golf carts, guns, a whole pole barn!
Manufacturing mariwanua, speed.
Posession of full automatic weapons - non registered.
sale of above drugs
The pole barn was interesting, a neighbor had a pole barn package dropped off at some property he owned. The crook told a local contractor that the yard had dropped it at the wrong address. The contractor picked it and erected it for him. He paid the contractor. The crooks young adult kids were in the biz with him. The kicker: He was a local police chief! He and his family were a crime wave all by themselves. Easy.

How low can they go?? I had a roll of 47" woven wire unrolled putting up a new fence by the road, had about 10 wraps left on the roll to unroll yet, had a suspicous truck stop on the road and went to investigate. They left in a hurry and I just thought they were looking for a place to dump trash. Went down there the next day the the roll was all the ways unrolled, asked the wife if she unrolled it and she said no, looked again and the wires have been cut off. The nice guys re-rolled up about half the roll and cut it off. I think when they left in a hurry that one was up in my field rolling wire.
How low can you go. I got a license number and the make of truck and have been keeping a eye out for them. local sherriff is a joke.

Most thieves here are doing it to get money for the next fix of Crack or Meth. We have a problem here. A neighbor has an Uncle that is hooked, & shows up to stay with him several times a year. Every time he shows up, things get missing & houses get broken into... This addict is the sorriest, most worthless excuse for a human being that has ever existed, but there is nothing we can do. My fear is that either he kills someone, or someone has to kill him, & then have to deal with all the legal & moral issues.

Perhaps it's because it's everyone's fault but their own? Parents didn't give them everything they wanted? Weren't the most popular in school, growing up? Didn't get the job they were born for? You know, the entire world's out of step with them, so we should understand. Cruel world. LOL.

A couple of months back, some houses and barns were getting broken into in the general area. One lady got home from ??? in broad daylight, and a guy scrambled out her back door, ran through a field and disappeared into a woods. A day or so later, the local marshall pulled a over a guy walking down a road that he didn't recognize and fit her general description, questioned him, didn't like his answers, took him in for more questioning, and finger printing. He got a hit on the guy's prints. The guy did time for breaking into factories in the county. The guy tells the marshall that it's true that he did time for breaking into factories, but not residential breakins. He was looking like the prime suspect to several of us at that point. Then comes back a hit on some prints from inside the lady's refridgerator that matched his - he made himself something to eat while burglarizing her house. Guess what? This guy's caught dead to rights, he's busted. He goes to court and because the jails are overrun, he gets off with two misdemeaners, and is out on the roads of rural farm Indiana as of about two weeks ago, totally free. It's a beautiful thing. The only thing we've got going for us is that it's a close-knit family/farm community. We look out for and take care of each other.

You will find that every area has a few thieves, some do it for a living. I guess it's the way they were raised, it doesn't bother them in the least, and they think it's there for the taking. I think maybe they think "Ha Ha I got it off that guy", not "I shamefully took it from him". I dunno, theres all types, and definatly some bad apples out there. I know some people steal just to steal, take stuff they don't even want just to throw it away. I've gotten PO'd about people swiping pipe plugs and such off our tractors at shows, a 5 cent part and they got to steal it, then theres those that sabotage, local field days has a tractor pull and show, I liked to show mine, but not anymore after I've had people monkey with stuff, particularly at night when the place is closed, I don't even competetivly pull my tractors and somebody has come and "fixed" the engines so they don't run right, monkey with the coil, turn screws on carbs, that sort of stuff. I don't understand how you could feel big winning a pull knowing you had sabotaged half the tractors in it for a small $5 plastic trophy and maybe $20 worth of prize money. Local consignment sale has had problems with people sabotaging there too, shutting the fuel off, leaving the ignition on to kill batteries, flatening tires, mixing up the plug wires, pulling the coil wire, etc... to get it cheaper.

No problem as they desrved to have those items that origional owner didn't deserve to have. The people with were born into money and priviledge, the thieves were not. And the thieves figure they need the stuff more than the origional owner. Anyways, they are rich and have inurance so nobody gets hurt. Some figure they are being a "Robbin Hood". Steal from the rich and give to the poor (themsleves). Some like the excitment of living life on the edge. Being so smart and fats the law can't catch them. The human race has no problem convincing them selves that doing what ever they want is OK. How about Enron or the entire Stock Market with insider trading etc?

i had a ford 4000 that needed a new battery cable stuud connector and nose cone. tractor set at another piece of property i owned untouch for a year. so i had the starter fixed ,put it on the tractor, took the battery home to charge-next day went back to be surprized that somebody stole the starter. what is even worst is that it was probably by someone who i know or have helped out and found out through general conversation on catch up talk.

i was kinda house sittin off and on in my buddy's house 2 years ago while he was off to the war, and about 3 in the morning i heard some glass break , then someone came in the back door. i grabbed my .45 and got down beside the bed .the guy came into the room and saw me and i told him to leave or id shoot . he bolted for me and i dropped him . he lived for two days but turned out he was on crack and was needin money for it.was strange because we dont really have a theif problem around here.the cops took it before the grand jury and they let me go. cops said breakins in town nearly dropped to zero.i wish the guy had just left. lucas

Wow, you're right. Does have to be a tough thing to have to go through and live with. But, if it's any consulation, a preditor put him in that position to begin with, and then made it a fight for survival or die. Ouch. Like you thurlow, my sympathies to lucasss as to well.

How can they look in a mirror???? That is only the tip of the iceberg. How can they take pride in something that was acquired by theft or bought with money acquired by theft. Every time they pick up the wrench or attach the ball to a truck, they should remember how they got it and be humiliated by the thought that they had to stoop SO low as to steal something, let alone something worth a lousy $20. A thief must be a person with such incredibly low self esteem and self worth.....I cannot even imagine it.

I'd keep a close watch on the TRAILER... They might be mounting the ball so they can come back and "finish the job"...

I was thinking the same thing Indy. I think they ought to do what they do with the camel jockeys. Ishmal, Akmed"s cousin on his third mother"s side, got his right hand chopped off for stealing donuts at the Eleven and Seven. Akmed says he can still play the zither, but now it sounds like he is standing on the cat"s tail. Harley

Never underestimate the depths to which people will sink. If it can't be locked down- it will grow legs around here.
