Hello Hound, I think you can buy the needed manuals from the Helm Publishing Co. I bought a complete set for a 87 Chev pickup about 3 years ago. The price was about 125.00 and included wiring diagrams and fuel/drivability books. helminc.com HTH dan wc ne wyo

Check out painless wiring.com
They have a bunch of information there and also may have a wiring kit for doing just what you are wanting to do.

...transplanting a '97 chev 305 vortec into a '90 chev (was a 350)....mainly need the info about the wiring harness that goes through firewall under the heater. The 90 chev had the fuel computer inside underneath the dash.. with the vortec, the computer is on the inner fender. ..so the wire bundle isn't nearly as big for the newer engine. I need to pull out the "needed" wires from the old large bundle to run the instrument panel and such. Hope you can help. Thanks. Hound

Aw,

I see what you are up to; ya wanna get the extra power from that center fire.

Wish I could help you, but I can't. I would imagine the only people who have those schematics would be the Chev garages. At least all the ones I ever worked at had 'em.

Allan

I don"t think it"s gonna be that simple. You proposing going from an obd I sys to an obd II system. There are more sensors involved. You won"t be pulling wires out you"ll be adding them, and several to boot. The newer computer will want to see O2 sensors behind and infront of the Convertor. There is also the matter of the diagnostic plug that usually goes near the steering column, for new system to work it will have to be the obd II plug. The new computer will also want to see the evaporative emission systems components. The newer computer will be alot more picky, if you do get it to run, you will be seeing a check engine light almost definately.

Also, That old engine had two injectors as a throttle body setup. The new one has eight. How did you wire this up, or are you using the entire wiring harness and computer from the newer truck and are just trying to find the ignition voltage from the key to power everything up?

I am by no means saying it can"t be done, just wondering how hard it is. Which year diagram do you need? Or do you need both. I have never seen anyone do a swap such as this one. I am very interested to see how it works. Good luck, Chris.

...ya your right, its quite a project. I got the entire computer and wiring harness (from the engine to the computer)..just not through to the main panel. I don't have the O2 sensors, but I was only going to fabricate/ install new pieces of pipe. I found a wiring diagram tonight, I didn't realize the 87's had the same ECM as the 90's. Hound
