Tractor length, width and weight are vital. There are pictures of a 50 in this sites stuck and troubled area worth looking at. The operator was moving bales way beyond safe capacity and right up to absolute max capacity. Then when one little thing went wrong that normally wouldn't even be noticed. The score was bale 1 and tractor 0.

I'd look a little bigger for the mower and baler. Moving the bales is no problem. Weight (of the tractor)is your biggest need there unless you are doing silage bales. My dad and I run all 7 series Fords, no problem with 4x5's or even 4x4's wet. I can run 4x6 with my baler and it makes the stock 7710 scream a little, others are turned up some and they do fine.

I have a 956 and wouldnt want to use less than a 100hp unless your ground is flat and dry. It's way better to have little extra hp than come up short.

Around here the answer would be yes.

Thank you for your reply.
I'm looking to pull a 6x6 baler and a 14' swather
and dont want to buy a tractor to small.
I'm using a JD 4020 now and need a newer tractor with cab and air

6640 will probably "do it" but it's rather small for the baler. She'd be blowin' smoke and snortin when that bale gets up to size. I'm not sure of the power required to run a hydro powered swather, but a mechanical drive would be fine on that tractor. I've run a Case IH 8350 12 foot on a TS90 (70 hp) with ease. It's been run on 42 hp, albeit rather slowly. Bale handling would be fine on a 6640, properly ballasted in the rear. Still, you might be better off looking for a little larger tractor for the baler, if you always bring them up to size. Good luck.

It is big enough to handle large round bales. But in my zipcode, it would not handle the baler or a 14 foot mower conditioner. Comes up about 20 horse short of a 4020.

What baler are you running to get a 6X6 bale? I would also think a bale of that size would be much more thatn 1200lbs.

Sorry about that Its a 5x6 Hesston 956 baler its rated for 70hp min and 90hp recomended.
5x5 it what I try to keep bales to, any larger than that becomes to diffucult to move them around on wet ground.

A 4X5 baler is a pretty good load for 70PTO HP.

People in our area will run a 14 ft Mower Conditioner with a machine that size but NOT a disc mower conditioner.

It is as small as you would want to go on the baler.

A fellow I know runs a NH 5x4 on 42 pto hp in flat land and likes it pretty well. It doesn't load the tractor down until the bale is nearly done.
