I am repairing a crack in the block with JBWeld and when I put it in the hole or crack in a few minutes it starts running out the side and down the block. How can I make it cure faster or is the faster curing JB Weld as good as the regular JB Weld? I know that this is not the proper way to fix a block but it seems to work and every few months I have to go back and take the old off and put some new on it which is cheaper than stripping the block down and having it fixed right. Thanks

You might try a marine shop and ask for MARIN-TEX like JB WELD but i like it better. regular set and fast set has a tensil strenght diffrence but a good product. Fixed a t-stat housing on my "H" aand works great

i know certainly not correct to do this process but usually i have found that if you mix it on a piece of card board or plastic let it sit for a hour 1.5 hours maybe 2 let it get fairly thick and tacky then apply and a hair dryer or a heat gun works

You should try something different as by your own admission it doesn't hold up and needs to be redone. I think I read on this site of someone using the urathane (sp?)sealant windshield installers use. It should allow for expansion that the JB does not.

I use the JB Weld that comes in a putty stick form. The two parts are formed like a "jelly roll", and you just cut off the amount to use, and kneed them together in your hand. About like using glazing putty. I've used it on plastic gas tanks and it seems to work better than the regular type JB.

i fixed a 4cyl mercruiser in a boat that i was given with jb weld. had a good size crack on block and intake. worked great. theres only about 15psi of water pessure running threw block. i used the original jb weld with 2-3 layers on block. let it thicken up a bit , keep working it back into crack as it runs down block. i let my coats dry for a day. try not to be in a hurry. i have never had a promlom since. make sure your crack is super clean and oil free, and dry.use a good brake cleaner or simular product

I know the JB kwick is not supposed to be as strong as the regular 24 hour cure but the kwick is the only kind I buy. At my age I don't have time to wait.

John got the right idea just put tape over it ,and apply it in layers to build it up.

Willy --- A few weeks back ,I think it was on this board.....they were talking about fixing cracked blocks, using "BLACK PEPPER"....I don't know what the procedure is, but I know it worked in my Dads F-20 about 55yrs,ago..

As a general rule..... Fast-curing Epoxies are not as strong as the slow-curing type..... .

Heat helps some, but try putting a layer of masking tape over the crack once the JB is in to hold it in place. Never compared them myself, but have heard the fas curing isn't quite as strong. To get a better hold, use a Dremel and v the crack a little.

Tensile strength is given right on the back of the package; regular is 3960 psi; Qwik is 2424.....

It was recomened to us to use jb weld on hot grips for atvs and snowmobies. The hot grips keep your hands warm when riding in cold weather. But to use only the regular not the fast stuff cause the fast cant take as much heat. Jb weld is good stuff. Once jb welded a striped spark plug in a honda 70. Never did come out.
