I have 2 Case "S" series tractors. One is a 1947 & the other is a 1948. I decided to purchase a new set of tires for the nicer tractor, but I can't find the rear ones (12x26) anywhere. Does anyone here know were to get them.....or do I need new rims? If I need rims, which ones will work and where can I get them? Tim

13.6 is the EXACT same size as 12 x 26 and a lot of older self propled combines used that size with good ones to be found at a combine salvage yard

Thanks for the info Leroy. I did some more checking and found that moving the fenders inboard for clearance is easy (if you don't take into account the rusty bolts that will probably break off). I'll put some krol & heat to them, cross my fingers & twist. If I go with 13.6, it looks like I'll have to remove the outer part of my belt pulley as well. Other than that, I don't see a problem..... .except the ridiculously high price for that size ($375 each + shipping). I have checked with the local salvage yard, but they want to sell me rims as part of the deal which makes it about $200 per side. That's a bit hard to swallow for a 60 year old tractor I only paid $400 for. This whole tire deal is starting to make me think about blowing a big wad on something more modern..... .maybe something with a backhoe & a loader. Tim

Just looked at a photo and I was certainly wrong in thinking the VA hub would go onto the standard S axle (which has a nut and probably a tapered axle end).

What do the rowcrop SC's use for tire size? Also, I would guess that the rear wheel cast hub & rim from a regular VA would slide right onto that S axle which I believe is 2" diameter. They were 28" I believe. A friend of mine has a set of those that he'd part with but shipping would be costly assuming you're not close to where we are here.

Tim:
12x26 are very hard to find anymore. I see that millertire.com has 13.6x26 , or you could change rims and use a 28 inch tire.
Good luck!
Jeff

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the info. Actually, the 1947 has one 13.6 x 26 on it (was there when I bought the tractor). I don't like it because it rubs on the fender. When & if I find a good replacement tire / rim combination for the 48, I plan to "hand-me-down" those tires to the 47 just to get rid of the 13.6. As far as changing rims to 28's, is there a specific type or brand I will need? The centers of my wheels are very heavy cast iron, but the actual rim would have to be a specific inside diameter to properly clamp to the center..... right? For the record, I like my existing gear ratio. If I go with 28's, can I get a lower profile tire to keep the same ratio? If anyone out there has gone through this already, I'd sure like to learn from your experience. Tim

Tim:
Wish I could help you more, but i'm not sure about the lower profile tires etc... If I were you , i'd call Miller Tire and ask them..i've heard that they are really knowledgeable.
Jeff
