Here is something I don't see every day, it is a New Holland Hay Cruiser, self propelled square baler... came across the other day in my travels. Owner has her running and drives her in the town parade each year. I am 52 and must say I have "never" seen one or heard of one, must of lead a sheltered life in the sugar beets. Anyhow, owner has a nice manual with it, intends to spruce up one day when he makes enough off his horse saddle repair hobby and I thought I would show her off here on YT. Does any one know how many of these were made, tells they were dealered out in early sixties. What other weird and wonderful machines are out there?

There is a nice one sitting in a barn I rent. It is a 166 I think.

The 166 was the only one built with the narrow front, it used two 2-cyl. Wisconson engines, one for the drive, and one to run the baler. And it was a lot smaller than the 178 and newer balers. The 178, built from 01-01-59 thru 01-31-61, looked more like my 1280. Where would this baler be located? And, might someone be interested in selling?

Owner tells me it has a factory Ford engine... and he knew of them coming with Wisconsins and another make but can't remember what he said. baler located in Saskatchewan, Canada... not for sale, she goes to parades... says makes a wider than normal square bale and put up 110 last year with it... says the bale counter is broke... would like to find replacement part, had to count bales put up on fingers.

Here is a picture of my 1280 Haycruiser. The 1280 was built from 1961 thru 1964. The one George MD showed is a 166, they were built from 01-01-56 thru 12-31-57. The last self-propelled hay baler built by NH, was the 1426, it was built from 07-01-81 thru 07-31-84.

That thing must rock pretty bad... It can't weight as much as a baler and tractor?

It was mentioned that they are a few NH Haycruisers in Western Montana. I would be interested in hearing about them. Please email me at joyway@log.on.ca
