I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a Wain-Roy tractor. My neighbor knows of one, and we have never seen this model. It has a bachoe, and loader on it. Does anyone know where this tractor was made, or any history about it?

The Wain-Roy corporation is in Fitchburg and
Hubbarston, MA. They are said to be the originators of the hydraulic tractor mounted
backhoe. They built loader/bachhoes under the
Wain-Roy name then sold the business to Yale, the
forklift company which built them for several
more years before ending production. Wain=Roy is
still in business building bachhoe buckets and
attachments. They are part of the Woods company
which makes mowers, posthole diggers and other
3-pt machinery. I have 2 Wain-Roy Rustler backhoes
that I've had for 30 years. Excellent digging
machine and at the time when new, more then
competive with Ford, JD and Case. Problem was they
used a Ford 172 diesel/gas motor. Gas was fine, but the diesel was just the same motor with no
real changes to compensate for the increased
compression so they were hard to start on the job.
This gave them a bad rep which really hurt the
sales to contractors, the bread and butter buz
they needed to suceed.
