These big old machines are "betwixt and between"- anyone farming big enough to use a machine that size has to use a newer machine for reliability, and collector value is very limited because it's too big to haul to shows, doesn't fit in any puller class, etc. I think James2 was right on the mark.

The tractor weighs about 15,000 lbs, making it worth as scrap around $1000 after subtracting tire weight and tire disposal cost. I bought a good running 4166 with AC and 3point for $3000. Tires had 40% tread. Converted to 134a, changed all fluids and put in a cab kit. Although I think it was a pretty good buy, the question is, who wants one? I believe the market for these machines is very limited. I don't believe that it is worth more than about $1200 to $1500.

If it runs it might be worth that, but with no clutch you are barkin' at a winch truck to haul it. If it was in good runnable shape, I'd think it would be worth 6 to 8K. One thing is that those big IH 4 wheelers were made by the Frank Hough (of Payloader fame) construction equipment division which is a good thing in that Hough knew how to make good tough construction equipment but a not so good thing in that they are now orphaned in terms of getting parts, being part IH and part hough. Might have some luck at a Dresser dealer as Dresser took over Hough when IH went down the hopper. Definite collector value for a dyed in the wool IH fan, tho.

Right now that tractor is worth scrap price minus what it takes to pay someone to load and get it there minus the deductions - -

if you fix it all up and getting it running again it will be worth scrap price plus $100 (it will be easier to get it to the scarp dealer.....)
