just a little rant about used tractor prices. why is it that when i have a tractor for sale, it seems like it is not worth anywhere near what i want for it when folks come to look and drive it. but when i go to buy a tractor, it seems like everything i look at is made of gold and priced that way. i had several phone calls about my for sale and even got a nasty response from one person about my price. what gives with these idiots? i'm not about to give away my tractor just to get rid of it, but at the same time i think my pricing is fair market value from what i have seen. what experinces do you have about this?

Hay, what have you got for sale & where is it located? Timing matters; Spring will bring new interested buyers. I've bought, fixed & sold about 20 in last few years & usually everytime you advertise one , a tire kicker comes first & justs wants to drive; next a wheeler dealer with an attitude that cuts your tractor down; takes patience to sell these old tractors. Want to trade one? Maybe I can sell yours & you can sell mine. Mine's a restored 300; kind of nice.

All depends on how long you want it to be for sale. If you don't care how long it takes to sell it. set a price and stand firm, regardless of what prospective buyers think. someone will be willing to pay what you want,If you are sick of stareing at it in the front yard price it accordingly.

Price has a relative value based on whether you are buying or selling. Things always seem to have increased price when buying, and a decreased price when selling. Its sort of like time. A minute has a completely different value and length depending on which side of the bathroom door you occupy.

Have always had that problem, not just with tractors but everything. I take care of my stuff and keep it up. Most others don't. They abuse it, wear it out, and after they break it they sell it to buy more and think it's gold.....probably to get enough money to buy a replacement.

Any more, I just buy what I want to use and don't think about resale. If I do I expect to get screwed.

Also I find that used buyers are more interested in the book value as far as considering that your things are buyable. The fact that you have this or that replaced, or have it in tip top shape is just a bonus for them. If they can con you out of it tough luck for you.

Morning Mark, I'd say that you hit the nail right on the head. Isn't limited to just tractors. Is a good practice to figure out if YOU need it, and if YOU think it's worth it to YOU (me too).

Folks rebuild stuff then ask a fair price which usually doesn't even factor in their labor and at some point decide to sell it, then someone comes along and says "I could pick one (piece of junk) for ..., you're asking too much". Is kind've insulting, but them's the breaks. Now when someone takes to chewin' you out though, guess you just tell them to have a nice life and to not come back. If they come back, double the price and tell them that last butt chewin they gave you was a "customized improvement" that they demanded above and beyond the original price, take it or leave it.

Have a good day. Snowing here again.

I have another problem too and that is I know what I have done with my stuff while I had it and subconsciously factor in a use factor which causes me to think it is not worth as much as I want to ask.

With something I buy, it's "new" and you don't know what it's been through so you (I) seem willing to pay more, usually for less.

Good talkin,

Mark

I have looked at tractors that I thought were priced too high but there ain't no sense being nasty about it. Just thank the man and go home.
Look and see what comparable tractors are selling for at auction, (local or ebay) Asking prices in classifieds don't mean much, maybe theirs ain't selling neither.
