Sorry to beat a dead horse but got a call from a friend and has cousin was useing his 8N to do some brush hogging today well his cousin is in the hospital with an bad knee now. Tomorrow I get the fun of seeing how bad off the 8N is. Right now the front end is up about 2 foot in the air on 2 trees and theres a tree between the back wheel and the tranny. Steering wheel is junk now and who know how much more of the tractor. Please when your on a tractor keep your head out of your A$$ and think you only have one life to live and a tractor will take it and not care.
PLEASE BE SAFE AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DO

Unsafe conditions and unsafe acts are the reasons for injuries. Any time someone does somethings they HAVE to look at it and ask them selves if there is anything they feel unsafe with. If they do feel it is unsafe , it is. ANY unsafe condition needs to be corrected. This can be done with gaurds, distance, propertools, or proper PPE (personel protective Equip). Unsafe acts are more common sense. Short cuts should never be taken. Working on something with out secure footing or balance is a major cause for falling into something. I am amazed at things people have done, including myself, to save time or save a buck, leaving the potential for a lifetime of disability or death to them selves or others. I am just getting into farming again after being in the manufacturing enviroment for 13 years and there is SOOO much that I have learned that I will make this farm safe for myself and children. There really is not much out there for safety on the farm for green people. Please every one if it looks unsafe, feels unsafe, it is. ALWAYS disconnect power sources, LOCK them out. Support equipment with blocks and pins, dont rely on hyd pressure to hold some thing. People have lost fingers just from working on some thing as simple as breaking a baler chain with some one.I know we all do an unsafe act or accept an unsafe condition every day. Injuries can be avoided. Best of health to every one!

It had one on it. It was a case of the guy being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and when it got hung up in the tree he couldn't push the clutch down because of the tree holding the pedel up.

You sure are right, Safety First, was it possible this was a kid with no brains? Tractors, or any equipment can distroy your life if your not using your brains, and think how to handle yourself with equipment, some people just like learning the Hard Way....

Wasn't a kid but it was a city boy going out to the woods. He will be retireing in a few years. What makes this real bad is he had the safty speach before he got on the tractor. He was told never, never drive the tractor on a side slope but he did any how and now the tractor and him need to go see the doctor. Looks like the guy maybe off his feet for a couple months maybe more

Hi Joe,

Boy, I dunno. I've known guys who have operated tractors and equipment every single day for the bigger share of their lives who have gotten killed, wounded, and maimed.

That one instance where a fella "goes to sleep" and doesn't pay attention can be a killer. Gotta be thinking all the time.

Allan

Allan, we had an old farmer who lived on a fairly flat farm, and he had tractors, etc. that he used every day. He'd drag logs around his farm with his tractor. Always kept the chains hanging from the rear axle-hooks hanging down-always right at hand when needed! Well, he sold that farm to a developer-got BIG BUCKS for it!! Didn't have to farm any more! His kids tried to talk him into just setting on the front porch! Not for him!! He bought a hill-side farm and settled in to keep the brush down on the land, so his cows wouldn't get in the brambles! One day, riding on a side slope, one of the dangling hooks caught a spoke in a wheel and--that's all she wrote! His wife found him clutching the steering wheel against his chest! Buried him 3 days later! by: Rustyj
