I am just completing the restoration of an International 404 Tractor. It had been sitting in a barn in Southern Arkansas for over 5 years. It had been treated badly but the tin was straight. Information is scarce regarding this tractor and I was hoping someone could help me find some of the following:

Serial Number 9161J Supposedly 1967 What is rated HP? How many were made? Where might this one have been manufactured?

Thanks for any help.

The 404 is all American (Rock Island plant) Just a newer 200, 230, 240 but with a nice little 3-pt hitch. About 37 hp, peppy little engine; live hydraulics.

If the SN begins with a B it was british built, if it begins with a U it was us built.
Not really sure where in either place though. This same series tractor was liscensed fro IH by Mahindra and also built in India. That is where most replacement parts for these types of tractors come from now-a-days.

I understand you have a I-404 and not a Farmall 404;serial # range from 501 in 1961 to 11032 in 1968, the serial # is on the right side of clutch housing. The Farmall 404 was tested at Nebraska in may-june 1962, test # 818; gas engine 135 CID and the bare weight was 4115 pounds. The pto HP was 36.7 @ 2000 engine rpm. This is an updated version of the iH/Farmall 340, so I guess it was manufactured in USA.

The 404 was a replacement for the 240 model; having a 4 speed transmission (8 spd. opt.),transmission driven PTO. QR
