Hello all,
I found a similar post about this topic, and I'm concerned that my gator is in trouble. It will start fine, idles kinda rough (the steering wheel shakes unless you hold it) and will drive for a little bit, say 10 mins or so. Then it dies, and when you start it up it wont shift into foward or reverse. when you give it gas, the drum that the belt is on doesnt move left to right. Any ideas? it only has 800 hours on it.
thanks

Get some spray lube with teflon. Clean the dirt and krap out and spray on the bushing. It should free it up. If it keeps happening you may need to replace the bushing completly.

BTW, you need a special tool to do this $50-80 from JD dealer. After mucking around for too long I learned the best thing to do is drive the gater into the back of you pick up. Waste a bunch more time driving to your nearest JD dealer. Wait 5 min while they use the special tool. Pay too much money for the bushing. Then go home.

If you keep the bushing clean and lubed, it works pretty good. Also check to make sure the black wear plugs on the other pully are not worn out. If they are - replace them quick. There is an easy way to take them out without taking the whole thing apart.

I work my gater hard. It is a great machine, too bad there is so much plastic on it. Grant

Like any other moving parts they require service. Snowmobiles need this service every season as well. If you follow the service manual you will see the regular call-up to disassemble the clutches and clean out the old dried lube and dirt. Then replace any worn parts and lightly lube with what the book specifies. Then set the belt clearances to compensate for wear.

slag weights are used much like snowmobiles tolerances and keeping them in adjustment is critical
