What do you mean a "carb." overhaul kit. A diesel engine has injectors and an injection pump, not a carb. Let us know, if you are talking about the injector, I would get that professionally rebuilt (they have very little tolerance for error). Goodluck

Hurst,
IH had used a diesel that was started on gas and swithed over to diesel once it is warmed up. So it is both a spark ignition and a diesel engine.

Hurst,

The Farmall 450 diesel starts on gas and switches over to run on diesel. This system was used by IHC for many years and the 450 was the last series tractor to use it. The 560 which replaced the 450 had glow plugs.

That's interesting. With the high compression ratio for diesel how would you avoid pre-ignition with gas? And what about spark plugs- in a diesel?

'Gas' mode compression ratio about 6 to 1 on IHC. Spark ignition chamber open by small third valve in head- could call it a compression release. Nearest modern sort of example might be Honda CVCC of 80's civic- precombustion chamber with rich mixture intake, 3rd valve for easy start and run, lean mix in main combustion chamber. IHC when running Diesel mode about 14.5 to 1 compression ratio, third valve closed in all cylinders, gas shutoff to carburator, injection of diesel fuel only directly into cylinder. RN.

They were special spark plugs-massive.(I still have a new one in the shop). There was a compression release for when it was running on gas. I always switched to Diesel & swung the compression lever simultaneously. Actually amazing set up for it's time.
