Hi Guys,

Spent all weekend on this old bear-hound tryin' to make it serviceable again. A feller in New York told me it looks like some kinda lethal weapon. :>)

Don't know 'bout that, but anyway the skinned knuckles are now healin' as we speak and the hot wrench is put away for another day. :>(

Are them oil spots I see there Allan? If was my concrete, it'd be diesel. I sure am gonna have to fix that. With all the snow and melting and...the driveway was a long muddy rutty...so fired up the deere yesterday and dragged the blade, but sure was a lot of diesel under it. Next weekend when I'm home will crawl under it and start lookin.

Of course though, if was a shovelhead hog, I'd understand it. They were made to leave oil spots so our friends know that we think enough to stop and visit them when they aren't home. My friends tell me to call first so they don't have to come home to an oil slick. LOL.

Hi Mark,

Looks pretty darned bad, don't it. :>(

Naw, the first darned thing I had to do was fix the hydraulics on the old toothed one.

Probably hadn't opened in 20 years and 'twas a wee bit reluctant. :>)

When I bought it, I had the choice between this old dog and a real good straight one. Trouble was, the good one didn't have a dirt pan and I really wanted it, as I was moving a lot of dirt at the time.

Well heck, ended up using the 8' bucket anyway, so probably won't use that pan ever again and coulda saved myself some grief. :>(

Ya know Allan? Speaking of hydraulics, I've gotta fix a leak there too, on the loader. You know how things come from the factory. Pipe, blocks, and fittings painted. Don't want to tighten once start leaking. Well, is gonna have to come off so as can get at them. This stuff looks like just tapered threaded water pipe into blocks, painted green. If there are o-rings, I'll find out. Thanks for the reminder though - diesel and hydraulics.

And no, your concrete don't look bad. If was clean, clean, clean, I'd be giving you the rub for that. Figured I'd just start something. LOL.

Hi Todd,

Yes Sir, got the forks pretty darned close by takin' 'em off, blocking them and driving over 'em with the tractor using it as a press. I've got a 6' cheater bar that I used too.

Whoever made that brace across the teeth, made it wrong; 'cause he made it to fit the teeth while they were bent. I gotta get some material and build a couple of new ones and space 'em out right.

Was able to save the inside of the bad center pillow block, just bought a cap, so that helped a lot.

Allan, Uff-Da is a word I would hear my Grand Mother say a lot. I dont't heat it much in Calif. Grand Mother, and my Mother came to Calif from Minot ND. in the early 40,s. What actually does it mean. I know it isn't a bad word comming from Grandama. Stan

Hi Stan,

Whooops! That just slipped out. Guess I picked that up while I was living up in Williston, North Dakota (Just west of Minot).

Is is a Norwegian slang saying kinda like "Forget About It" is to the Italians and is just an explanation type phrase that can mean just about anything you want. Uff-da, its hot! Uff-da, Lookie that woman!, Uff-da, I知 hungry. etc., etc., etc.

Uff-da, I知 outta here,

Allan

Stan,

I believe "uff-da" is a word used by many Norwegians and can mean just about anything you want it to, from oh heck, dang, wow, that's great, and on and on. Since you didn't get any other answers, I thought I'd stir the pot a little to see if anyone else has a better answer.

The other Stan

Allan,

"Uff Da" is only one polite word for it, eh? Got some good friends who say it all the time. She's mostly Norsk with a little Bohemie thrown in to increase the overall quality.

Before anybody gets upset about that comment, please know that I lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for 17 years and developed the greatest respect for the Bohemians/Moravians/Slovaks and all the various Scandinavian folk. With my ancestors being run out of England, then Holland, then Pennsylvania, then Ohio and finally, me being run out of Indiana and ultimately out of Iowa, I'm not in a position to say anything derogatory about anyone.

Thanks for the reply,

Stan

Boy, Allan, could I have EVER put you and that rig to work here at my place two months ago! Danged ice storm we got on Dec 23 sure made a first rate mess of things! Just now finishing up with my place--got to do Mom's farm and my brother's place yet. Maybe you'd want to venture to central Ohio to give that thing a workout?

We used our 504 with a #33 loader to get the bulk of the brush picked up. You can't get it all, but that loader with the manure tines is amazingly effective at wadding up a pile of brush, stabbing it and then carting it off for disposal. A grapple like yours would complete the arrangement nicely. Been thinking about adding a homebuilt grapple to my Kubota/Bushhog rig.

The pics you submitted are inducing impure thoughts about spending a weekend with a torch and welder!

Hey ol" Bud!

I hear ya there; I cannot imagine life without a loader tractor. Thanks for the picture, your outfit really looks sweet(and busy too, ya lucky dog)!

Boy! I don"t wanna start another war here(like I usually end up doing), but how do you ever handle big round bales without a grapple fork?

Or, perhaps you"re not into doin" the hay thing?

Just wondering,

Allan

Not doing the hay thing with the 504. A buddy does Mom's place with his 4020 and a set of three-point spears. (We've given special dispensation to our buddy to bring a green tractor onto the property.) But...you've given me and idea on handling the bales with the 504.

I forgot how big the pic was before posting. Sure uglies up the arrangement of this thread.

Allan, lookin'good there. There is quite a bit of satisfaction in returning a pile of scrap iron to its former usefullness. Could I make a suggestion? The grapple fork looks very good, but if you were to add 2 more hooks, one on either side of center, you would have a rig that would be very good for hauling brush, tree trimmings, etc. Might even be good for cleaning out that horse barn.LOL

Rusty,

New Rule!!

I'm gonna set a jar out here on the desk. Every time somebody utters the word "horse" they gotta put a quarter in the jar. Now, the price goes up to 50 cents if it is said in conjunction with my name.

Should be able to afford that old IH 766D in no time at all, I figure..... :>)
