Well I went and done it. I bought a 2600 with around 700 hours. Third owner. Previous two were elderly gentlemen. I was debating about it and the owner called me and made a offer I could not refuse. tractor, 6' bush hog, 2 bottom plow, and grader blade for $4500. I am not going to be able to keep both tractors so I will have to make a decision at some point. My boss(my wife) says to try them out this summer and then make a decision. SO That is what I'm going to do.

Those Blue Fords are fine tractors in my opinion. I like my 3000 gas. Purrs like a kitten. It has about 12000 hrs on it. I think the engineers at Ford deserve a gold-medal for these tractors. I used to have a 3000 diesel that bothered me with the noise doing putzing-around work. Also have a 3400 diesel loader tractor. Not heavy enough for maximum usefulness, but can do a lot.

And your decision will come down to what you use this tractor for.

While the 861 is nice with its live pto; I find the 5 speed a little high geared for close suburban work.
But on the other hand I would think a 2600 would have to put out every grunt it has to pull a 2 bottom plow and a 6' hog. Those pieces are more in line with the power of your 861.

For me and the type of work I use a tractor for; I would trade my 861 diesel any day of the week for a 3000; maybe even a 2000; that has live pto and the 8 speed trans.

So what you do is plan as many jobs for this summer as possible that will require two tractors. Then even she will see the advantage of keeping both!
