Will loader pump run snowblower???

I have a IH 350 utility, with Lord industrial loader and am thinking about mounting my 6 ft single stage snowblower up front. I can't find a tag or other identifying marks, on the pump to indicate it's GPM output. This pump, runs loader and backhoe with no problem, but I've had some people say it will run the blower, others say it won't. One said the tractor (40 hp) is ok to run the blower on pto, but doesn't have enough power to run it on hydraulics, due to the power loss in the hydraulics themselves.
Does anybody know for sure about this?
Thanks,
Smiley

Ifn I remember right, needs over 12gpm. Just what I was told.

I do not know for sure.

I will guess you do not have enough hp and that you do not have enough cooling available.

But those are guesses.

A snow blower takes a lot of constant power. You should be able to load up the tractor with a blower on the pto. Hyd systems typically lose 1/3 of their power in heat loss, so even if your pump could move 30 hp, you would be getting 20 at the blower. Likely you have an 11-15 gal pump, and that is less than 20 hp to start with I believe.

But, those are guesses.

Big difference between swinging some cylinders or running a constant motor.

Don"t know for sure but if it is an engine mounted pump it probably does not have enough flow. However if it is a front crank driven AUX pump then it might be ok.

It is a front mounted pump, that drives off the front crank pulley and easily ran a backhoe that was to big for the tractor (I had to carry a loader bucket of dirt to keep the front end on the ground)

The key items they have told you about heat are correct. Now one thing in your favor is that normally when you blow snow it is not 100 degrees outside. Do you know what model of hydraulic motor you have? Next do you know the size (bore & stroke) of one of your hydraulics cylinders. By using that information and the time it takes to extend that cylinder we can determine pump output. Then if we know the displacement of the motor we can determine the hydraulic motor RPM. Pressure is what gives the torque to the motor. What is your system pressure? Questions?

I haven't bought a motor yet because I knew it would have to be properly sized for the pump and intended use. With the info you have given me about bore, stroke, pressure, etc. I will go ahead an check it out as soon as I can and post it. If my pump won't do the job, I'll probably just run a pto shaft to the front and use the loader to raise and lower the blower.
Thanks,

with the crank driven pump you might have the GPM flow, some of them run up to 20 GPM. However as others have said, you will probably have to add reserve capacity and or maybe an oil cooler to run a blower with it. How many GPM does the blower need ? I think it would probably be over 20 if very large.

There's a HUGE difference in running a cylinder and waiting for it to fill up or push something, compared to trying to get enough flow to run a hydraulic motor with some power!!!

Then there's all the heat you will have to deal with.... The one i saw had about a 30 gallon tank of oil, and he said 50 would be better!!

I've seen it done, but it takes some doing to get it to work...

I agree with Robert. You may have enough power to get the job done but you will likely have a problem with heat. Your Tractor probably puts out 10-12GPM (I'm guessing here). A rule of thumb we use at work for industrial hydraulics is 3 to 1.
For every 1 gallon per minute of pump, have 3 gallons of resevoir. This is by no means the gold standard, just my opinion
