I put a post up not to long ago about our 706 and got a lot of help but it's still not running. It is getting a spark and we got it to pop but it won't start. We also tried some starting fluid and about blew everything up. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

You might want to check the timing. I saw a Ford pickup with a 302 do that once, pop during an attempted start and what it did was jump time. Drove us knuts trying to figure it out as we did everything to it but paint it green to get it to start. Had to throw in a new cam and chain to get it to start. The timing chain was rotten enough so that a good jolt during an attempted ether start (it was 20 below at the time) was enough to get it to jump time so it would not start. I dont know if your engine has a timing chain but if it does that might be the problem. The distributor might have jumped, too. I don't use ether in anything I care about, either. I have seen too much of what it can do. Plug it in to warm it up and keep it in good tune and you don't need ether. Just my $0.02.

Thanx for the info 66.168.173.6. My post was still a lot more useful than yours. Mine was at least a reply for the thread.

Hi I'm in Nebraska and it was running when we bought it but it just stopped running one day. we replaced just about every electrical part on the thing. I don't know if its not getting gas or there is a problem with valves but I appreciate all the help.

That sounds like a last resort, but if we can't get it running it will be parts for another one.

What do you mean by this? At first guess it sounds like your timing is way off.

Well we were messing with the timing when this happened. There was just a little too much starting fluid and we pushed the timing the wrong way. It was really loud and flames were shooting out.

Or.... a valve open when it shouldn"t be, or plug leads on wrong plugs (yeah - way off timing!), or dist cap cracked, or just too much fluid.
Perhaps needs a tow start?
