I have a MM 445 that started several months ago, but it will not start now. I changed the ignition switch, starter switch and the soleniod and the battery is charged. The power gets to the right side of the soleniod that is hooked to the starter and makes a clicking sound but does not crank. Before I changed the solenoid that wire would smoke and get hot, I need help. I have snow to plow, Thanks for any help.

If this type of tractor has a ballast resistor it may have gone bad.

A ballast resistor won't stop the starter motor from spinning..it'll start...but shut right off.

It could be the starter but it that's easy to check, run power direct to the starter from another battery and a set of jumper cables. If it's not the starter, find the starter relay and replace it. Follow the wires back from the starter selonoid and they should be to the relay.

With the ignition "OFF" for safety, try turning the engine over by hand with a crank or other means. This will verify that it is not stuck, and the starter is not jammed against the ring gear.

I would check to make sure the starter is not locked up first like one of the previous stated by turning over by hand or with a crank.
