Looking at a 300u for $3500. It has a good front end loader, good rubber, power steering off of front loader pump, quick hitch, gauges, all sheet metal. Some of the emblems are missing. Engine sounds good. The TA is suppose to be operational. Plan to test drive it soon. Overall I"d rate it a 7. What should I Look for and hows the price? Thanks.

You better buy that thing before the owner reeds all this and puts another $ 1000, on top of it. :-) Its real nice price for sure.

Sold a really nice 350U with IH 2001 loader last year for $4900. I just needed a bigger tractor, now I'm kicking myself. I offered to buy it back at that price this year & buyer politely declined, so I'm sure he is happy with it too.

I gave $2K for one a few years ago with no PS, no TA, no PTO, no hitch of any kind and a loader that needed lots of attention. I'd say you're in the right neighborhood.

Check steering for looseness. If there is, determine if it is in gearbox or somewhere else. Turn steering wheel lock to lock and see how it feels. Loaders are hard on these gearboxes. Check clutch and brakes for good operation. Do brakes hold OK ? See how much adjustment is left in clutch & brake linkage. If it's very little it could mean clutch and/or brakes will soon be needed. Pull T/A lever back and ride the brakes, T/A should not slip. The 300's are good, tough tractors, but as in all machines there are weak points. In the 300U it's the steering box and the brakes. For the asking price all these things should work acceptably. Send me an email if I can be any more help !
