I am on the 4-H Council for Crawford County in southern Indiana. We are wanting to have a tractor show at our fair this year. It will be the first time that we have attempted and hope to see a few tractors. If there is anyone on this site interested please contact me at above email.. If anyone has suggestions or things that I should know before starting this please feel free to share your knowledge..

Thanks Stacey Webster

Well, this will be the first year I've ever brought a tractor to a show, but I have been around to a few as a spectator. Personally, I like the shows that are just for fun. No prizes, no judging. I also recommend parading the tractors around. Everybody likes to hear the tractors run! I'm sorry I won't be able to see it. It's too long a trip from Alberta to Indiana. Good luck, and most of all, have fun!

Don't have the tractors judged.
If you want, give an award for oldest person showing, furthest to show and so on.

I was going to add that about having a tractor parade or have them in the regular parade. You might be surprised how many will turn out(spectators and participates).

Don't know if your going to judge them or not, but if you do, have it participant judged. That way, everybody's happy.

Make sure the fairgrounds is goinbg to insure you! Several years ago,a local club I belonged to was asked to bring a few to the local fair one year.Insurance was suppose to take care of us at the fairgrounds,so we didnt bother to inform OUR insurance company for some reason. This was highly debated at the meeting a week before, mainly becasue the secrutary didnt want to get up off her fat a$$ and make the call, but others had volunteerd to do it and it was finally closed."The fairgrounds will cover us!Nothins gonna happen anyways, never has before!" and on and on it went.well sir, just by chance, something did happen. This unsuspecting and unknowledgeable Dad decided he sit his two year old son on one and some how started it,and it was in gear.Went through the building we were in front of and killed two people.Long story short, the fairgrounds denied anyone told them they would be covered, and the club has now disbanded!

the owner of the fairgrounds does more than just sit back and coolect checks, she also sees to the day to day operations and acts as a secretary of sorts.According to her,and the contract that was signed, the club was responsible for its own insurance while on the fairgrounds. This point was made clear to OUR secretary, but as I said she was lazy and cared little about doing here job right.the judge ruled for the fairgrounds because of this contract and stated that we,the members should have made our tractors nonoperational suring this event since the ywere in a building.(I always remove a battery cable even at shows where I feel comfortyable leaving it sitting, and I love to see kids get up and sit on it)The Dad,although held responsible, got off pretty easy in the fact niether of the two families sued him,and the judge ordered him to pay the funeral expences for those two people, and repair the building. The judges final comment to the man was something like,"You messed up,now youre going to pay for that,no big deal. But youll be the one who has to live with the fact that your lack of knowledge of old farm equipment, and carelessness has cost two people their lives, youll have to live with that!"
