Hello there, I have replaced a small piece of 3\8 rubber hose on my truck radiator where the return comes for the throttle body coolant. All i could get at the parts house was some 4oo psi. transmisson hose made for oil. Is this sutible for anti-freeze? Thanks in advance

My 93 dorf has a throttle body with a 3\8 hose running to it from the block to warm it up and keep it from frosting up in cold weather. It dumps it back into the radiator by a steel line and then a short hose from the steel line to the radiator tank. I just didnt know if the rubber was compatible with antifreeze. I would think that if it can take oil it could take antifreeze. Some hoses are fussy on what you put in them such as fuel, etc. UncleTom

Learn somthing new every day. I had a throttle body once....that's why I asked..there was no hose on that one. The hose will be fine.

Some Throttle body fuel injections (I saw them on Buicks and Oldsmobiles in the mid 80's) had their own coolant supply to one side of the throttle body. I guess the coolant kept the throttle body at a constant temperature when warm and therefore should have been easier for the computer to calculate the proper mix.

I would think that the antifreeze mix wouldn't be nearly as rough on a hose as hot oil.

Well it is a 5.8 with port injection but what i call the throttle body is the part with the butterflys in it. I recently put water pump in it and recrimped all the little tabs around the plastic tanks. It was leaking around the tanks. I have fixed atleast 5 radiators that way. I just use a vicegrip and tension those tabs a little bit. Works good. But that little hose i was talking about was leaking a bit after i was all done. Dry as a bone now.

Hi Tom,

Fuel line is made from Nitrel and anti-freeze hose from rubber.

You can't use rubber for fuel line but you can use Nitrel for antifreeze or most other chemicals.
