Allan,
I've been following the conversations about your wife's desire for horses, and your possible "Dude Ranch", thanks Harley. A little story for you:
My sister, 15 years younger just married 2 years ago. She is now 41 and just gave birth to twins in Nov but that's another story.
Horses:
Her huband Rick had one horse (riding quarter horse) when they married. Latest count: ( I had to e-mail my sister for this as it constantly changes).
"We have a total of 10. Zero-the quarter horse, Bill and Bob-the 2 gray Percheron geldings, Malleh-Percheron/standardbred mare, Penny and Peg-reg Percheon mares, Tom and Leap-reg Percheron colts and Jasmine and Chelsea-reg Percheron fillies."
Along with numerous horse drawm implements, wagons, buggies, and carridges.
In other words, get your check book out!!!!
Harley, I don't know how far you are from the SE corner of MN, but they have trail rides every couple of weeks.

Hey those horses aren't all bad. I get my sister to run my market and wash all the tomatoes just by letting her keep her horses on the farm. She buys the feed and I make the hay. And yes Allen it's those little square bales. She paid for the fence, I paid for remodeling the barn, still a good deal for me. Heck I even take a ride sometimes but that ground seems further away these days than it did 30 or 40 years ago.

Loren,

I always thought you and I got along pretty darned good. Then you go and pull a stunt like this and post the "horse thing" yet again. :>(

Wife just read it and now she's off on another horse, arena, trailer, ropin', horseshoein' rant.

Guys, my life is just one long, horrid grind.

When that darned Harley ever gets up here, I'm gonna show him what a 13 coil loop is used for. :>)

Allan

Allan, we will always be friend, as I enjoy your humor and candor so much!! And I hope to meet some day, just I did with Stan - Florida recently.
Added note, my sister is a reseach technician at Mayo Health Systems, Rochester, MN and makes more money than I'll ever dream of making. Hence, her horse hobby. Just wish I'd sold my old tractor to her for a lot more, which is used every day to haul out the horse "stuff".

Seeing that "13" reminded me of something guy. Do you remember why they put thirteen buttons on the flap of your dress blues and whites? They told me it was to give the girls thirteen chances to say "no". Don't know, never took that long as I remember. Later, Harley

Loren - I always heard that with any team of Percherons , one horse was called either "Bill"or"Bob" and the other was called "Son of a #%^*#@&(*&^)". Would that be correct?

You forgot "TOM". Dad's last team was Tom and Nanc. Grandpa's was Rusty and Tom (Belgiuns).

Loren - These horsey types are sure well healed. My brother-in-law is getting into Belgians ---says he's just spending his wife's real estate money. She's been on a great roll, collecting commissions from $2-300,000 sales for about the last 4 yrs. Sure beats farming !!

Howdy Loren, I was born and raised in southwest Iowa and 25 years ago moved down here to the Ozarks in southwest Missouri. They have a couple of trailrides down here around Branson, but I want to go out and see the sandhills of northwestern Nebraska. You know, when you start the trailride, and if I happen to fall off of ole Silver, I can see the barn no matter how far away I am, and know how to walk back. :-) Later, Harley

Harley, I would need one of those horses with wheels, there is a post down below that talks about those, I think they called it a wheel horse. Would that be a horse with training wheels? Or would it be the best kind of horse, one with wheels under it, such as on the horse trailer, hooked behind a pick-up truck headed for the auction?

Yep, Yep, and Nope. Know what you mean. We had a couple of hayburners here for awhile till the little missus fell off hers and broke her pelvis in two places. I told her I would stay out of those two places ifn it was me,but that notwithstanding, they are pretty to look at, as long as it is over the neighbors fence. I wish him luck, but they are almost more expensive a hobby then tractors. Later, Harley

Harley, horses are a MUCH more expensive hobby than tractors, after all, when the tractor is not being used, it is not consuming fuel. Horses, on the other hand, consume massive amounts of fuel, whether they are being used or just loafing in the barn. Also, a horses exhaust is much more difficult and time consuming to get rid of. I'll take 6 tractors to one horse any day.
