Where are they? They say they sell more than any other brand. Where are they? Parked in some garage? Driving the highways and freeways, you see twice as many Chevy's and GMC's than Ford or Dodge. Where are they hiding all these Ford's supposedly sold????? ???

Hi Loren, You probably drive the same hwys of Minnesota that we do, a lot around central MN and Int 94 from NW to SE. On the freeway,GM pickups are the majority, frequently hauling ATVs or snowmobiles, tailgate down and headlights pointing at the sky. Or carrying sportsmen towing a light trailer or fishing boat. The work trucks, hauling hay trailers, machinery, livestock GN trailers, commercial car transports are Dodges and Fords. If you want a truck to park in front of the local pub or coffee shop, buy a chevy. If you want a truck for your daughter to drive to school or wife pick up groceries, buy a chevy. If you have real work to do and need proven diesel dependability, buy a Dodge or Ford. You won't regret having a truck with million mile capability instead of the diesel-of-the-day you'll get from GM.

If GM sells 600,000 Chevys and 200,000 GMC's, that's a total of 800,000 trucks. If Ford sells 700,000 trucks, who sells the most of one brand? This is how Ford can say they sell the most trucks and is what has been going on for a number of years. I bought a new 69 Ford camper special and it was an excellent truck after I fixed the carb and brakes myself. Got no help from two different dealers, but got the best help from a huge dealer in Minneapolis. All brands are pretty good, but all have their quirks. Back then, the 3/4 ton trucks all used the same parts. I stopped at a Chevrolet dealer to buy a Chrysler part for my Ford truck. All brands used a Chrysler 4 speed transmission.

We have a 89 F350 with 180,000 miles. Mom"s 2000 Explorer has 106,000+ miles, my 95 F150 has 88,000. Only problem with my truck is the rust, and it"s getting fixed in May. Also, still have Dad"s 76 F150 he bought new as a high school senior, great-grandpa"s 73 F250, a 75 F250 we chore with, 2 66 pickups.
Grandpa has a 2000 Powerstroke with well over 100,000 miles on it, and nothing can touch it.
Open your eyes, do a little research, Ford is number 1, always has and always will!!

Need glasses (grin);
I have a Ford, brother has a GMC; I love my Ford, brother loves his GMC; i really hate his GMC even if I know it is a good truck and I know he hates my Ford; I know he will never admit my Ford is a good truck, I don't trust him. Ford and GM are like capitalism and communism : capitalism is the exploitation of Man by Man, communism is the opposite, i.e, Man by Man. Ford = GM = Dodge, Okay ?

Sorta Kinda OT from original in reply to Loren-MN, 01-27-2005 20:10:39
Everyone you ask around here loves Chevys and cusses Fords, but get out and ride around - Fords are everywhere. I've never counted, but I'd say Ford and GM is neck-n-neck here.

Here's what gripes my donkey. Our company has 9 Chevy pickups. 6 of them are 2wd 1/2 tons driven by our lab guys all over N. Mississippi to test dirt and concrete on construction sites. Our guys take very good care of their trucks or we fire them. Tell 'em that when we hire them.

Everyone of them say they wouldn't buy one for theirselves. Boss drives a 2500 diesel and wouldn't have anything else. This truck might pull a boat 18 times a year. That's the hardest work it ever does. AND, his 2500 will get traded for another one just like it about every 2 years. In my opinion, he isn't working his no way near hard enough to say Chevy is the best.

On the flip side - if our testing guys were driving 2500's, they might like them better.

The toughest truck we have has got the easiest job. Our lighter duty trucks are working the hardest around here. I don't think this is a good comparison. And I think this is may be what we're getting from the general public.

The BEST of anything is gonna depend on how you use it.

Every brand has good ones and bad ones I'm sure. How your dealer threats you after they sell you a bad one has a lot to do with repeat business also.

I worked for a man who got traeted like sh!t by a Ford dealer in 1979 and wouldn't buy another Ford if it was a proven fact that they were better. Period.

Me, I drove a '68 F-100 from about '84 - '98. Found a heck of a deal on a '94 F-150 in '98 that I'm still drivin'. This one has had the you-know-what ran out of it and has held up very well. But I ain't about to make the comment that Ford is better than Chevy. Hell, I ain't tried but 2 of them.

I'll bet the bottom line is money spent.

Around the coffee shops the word is - Chevy is best. When this ole Ford quits, I may try me one of them Chebbies.

Mitch

Despite all of the arguing over which is best, I prefer Internationals. Too bad they don't make them anymore. I drive a 1965 1-ton 4x4 and also have a 1971 half ton. They are REAL trucks, as the wife doesn't know how to drive either one.

I drove from the NY/PA border to Tampa and back earlier this month. Took Rt. 81 to Rt. 77 (Charlotte) to Rt. 85 (Atlanta) to Rt. 75 (Tampa area). Same way back. Because I'm interested in trucks in general, I kept watch: Fords outnumbered GM products almost 2-1. Dodges distant third. There are good and bad in all of them, but one day I asked a guy who owns a NAPA store (third generation) which brand in his opinion wins the "truck wars." His reply--"You'll never make a living selling parts for Ford trucks." He then went to his computer screen and showed me his inventory over the last six months. His bottom line? There are more Ford trucks out there than any other brand but he sells nearly 40% fewer parts for Ford trucks.

Theres alot more Fords around here than any other brand. I don't see but very few of the Duramax diesels on the road, I'd say Ford Powerstoke outsells the Duramax 10/1 in this area. Word has gotten around how poor the latest generations of GM electronics are.

Location, location, location sir. Just like everything else. Come to southern WI and you'll see a pile of Fords. We have Dodge where I work and they're a joke. The only decent one we have is a 3500 Cummins dually. Impressive vehicle. All the salesman's trucks are 1500s and 2500s. They all are constantly in the shop. We trade them off every three years and their resale sucks too.

I'm a Ford man, always have been. Right now I have a '94 F250. Sad to say I'll be buying a GMC Duramax if I get a new truck in the next year. Ford has won the pissing contest on who can make the biggest truck out there. Who really needs to sit that high off the ground save semi truck drivers? Ever try to grab something outta the box from the side? I'm 6' 1' and can hardly do it. If they downsize in the next year or so, I might consider staying loyal as I really like that Powerstroke.

I am 30 miles east of Louisville, KY where many of the Ford trucks are built. They are the perdominant brand around here. I have always been a Chevy guy but the company I work for uses Ford trucks. I have to admit we get excellent service out of them. I even bought a 97 F 350 Powerstroke a couple of years ago and have been very impressed. Around here I can find someone who has had problems with every brand.

It's sorta like tractors. In one section of the country you find the dominant tractor to be Farmall, in another Case, in another John Deere. The same geographical tendencies extend to trucks also. In my neighborhood, Dodge is the most common.

I just traded my 97 Dodge 1500 for a Ford 350 Turbo Diesal. The Dodge had 55,000 trouble free miles but the 99 Ford only had 9900 miles on it. I my observation in this area is that if you want your septic tank pumped, phone repaired, or electric line built you won't see any Dodge or GM trucks working on them. The utitlities are the cheapest outfits in the USA and they must know something about fleet costs.
