Hi all! A person with a site name of Jim se Il posted a reply to someone asking about using propane for a tractor. He commented that he had built a pump for pulling the vopor from the tractor tank to speed filling. I was wondering if any one has any experience in this. I'm in need to buld one.
Thanks for any assistance.
Bob

When I used to haul propane the dealer had a small propane powered pump.

The pump operated as a steam engine would, however used vapor instead of steam. The vapor powered pump was used to pump liquid propane into the vessel you were filling whether tractor, pickup tank, etc.

I think the brand was "John Blue". The manufacture of this particular pump was discontinued while I still worked for the dealer, and I stopped long about 1980. I don't know if anyone makes one commercially or not.

Yes, John Blue did make such a pump. A friend has one and is trying to rebuild it. I am looking for parts or information for him, that is how I found these notes. If anyone has any literature, let me know.

Bob, I don't follow why you would need a pump to assist in filling your tank. Simply hook up the liquid fill hose from the nurse tank to the fuel tank on the tractor. Get a "Bleeder" this can be obtained from your local LP dealer. Thread it on the vapor valve. Screw it on just enought to release the vapor pressure. If you screw it in too far, (opening the valve, the overload trip will shut it off, simply start over and don't screw in as far). At sone point the vapor pressure will get lower than the pressure in the nurse tank. Let the vapor bleed off, till liquid starts comming out. Shut off the Bleeder. Shut off and remove the liquid hose, and you are good to go!.
Hope this helps!
Later,
John A.
