About 15 years back, four of us were out hunting moose the temp in the high 70's, as we had three moose shot, we had to haul them to meat packer so that they would not spoil. The time was 3 pm, on the trip back out to the foot hills in Alberta, a dark sky was forming to the west and it started to cool down. When we got back into camp at 6 pm it was around 40 above. Next morning we woke up to 6 inches of snow and about -20. Not bad for such a weather change in less than 12 hours. Remember that here in Alberta that if you don't like the weather. wait 5 minutes.

In Dallas a few years back, there was a weatherman (Harold Taff) that we all looked to becouse he had been around so long and he was good with Texas weather, which changes quite often. Anyway, he told the story more than once about when he was young and working in Alaska he missed the high temp. for the day by 100 degrees. He had said it would make it to 70 and it only got to -30. Some freak weather system that they sometimes have there. Then too this would have happened maybe 60 years ago.

I'm building a new house and for the last 2 weeks we had lows in the mid 50/60 range and daytime highs in the 70s. Monday the low was 19 and the high was 29. I'm not used to cold weather and don't like it atall. For you folks in the cold north, what did you do to be sentenced to live like that? We've all heard the joke about stepping on the ducks, is that what ya'll did? Later, Nat

Something like that in northern MN, we were 16 below to 36 above in the south, but now it is back down to +16 this morning.

Watching the morning news shows, out east the reporter was saying how everyone is huddled up at bus stops, she had 5 layers on because it was so bitter cold at 15 degrees. Above! I'm going to do all sorts of stuff outside today because it should be up to 15-20 degrees. All relative I guess. :)

It was -64 below wind chill factor here one year and we left for Tucson and it got up to +70 in the day there. Thats a big swing.

Hey, Uncle Tom! No fair doin it by jet plane. I think the question applies to same day, same place. I saw a 100 degree difference in WNY once. From 35 below to 65 above in the same 24 hour period. Ed

Ed,

That's why it's a common saying in WNY...."Welcome to Western New York....if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes..".

It sure can change in a hurry around here, huh?

When was that 100 degree swing, do you remember? I recall many times that were huge swings, and that 100 degree change stirs a foggy memory but can't place it.

Enjoy all this white stuff!

Brian

Hi Brian, Can't give you the exact year but it was around 50 years ago. Winters seemed to be harder then. I didn't have to walk to and from school 5 miles uphill both ways like some have said. I did ride between the milk cans under a tarp in the bobsled pulled by old Gee and Haw. What is your location? I have uncovered my e-mail.
