Hey Guys,

Need help if possible.

We are visiting over on the IH board about IH wide fronts. Does anyone have a picture of an H set up with the wide front placed way out in front to clear the knife & flinger on a beet topper?

This one is set forward, but it is not out far enough; used to be one of these tractors settin' in every yard around here.

Now that I wanna show someone how they were setup, can't find a tractor or a picture to save my soul. :>(

I know of the plate you talk about under the wide fronts.I can get you some pics of the plate inplace to make the front end back. This helped in making the turning radius shorter when cultivating and pulling a potato digger. Also could get measurments for you.We have 4 M"s and H"s with the plate on them at the farm. All it is is a 1/2" plate with holes for the front end and frame.

There is one of those all set up in the Harold Warp Pioneer Village Museum in Minden, NE. Don't know how far you are from there. I did take some pix but don't think I got any real good shots of the WF.

Everything there is packed in tight enough that you can see it but taking good pictures is another story.

I can look through my pix from that trip if you would like.

Darnit!

I'm depressing myself. You know you are getting pretty darned old when this is the way you first remember topping beets. Loaded by hand with a spud fork. :>(

So, when IH came out with that one row topper, we knew the industrial age had finally found Nebraska. :>)

Now, they yank, top, and load 'em 8-22" rows at a time.

Yep,

The wife just said that has got to be awfully close to us. I guessed Bridgeport. :>(

I might have to run down there and see if I can get some pictures of that old gal. On the Ms, there was room enough for the apparatus to fit the underbelly, but the H had to have that front end scooted way out there to clear.

Thanks Buddy!

Hi Brian,

I found this one, but I still don't think it is clear out there as far as it will go. Hate getting old without taking pictures of all that old equipment. So now, all the darned images are just in my head. :>(

Allan,
Tha is why I have a digital camera, my memory is getting worse every day. As long as I do not loose sight of the pictures I take I am doing good. Jim

JT,

This whole thing started over some folks telling me that the 1/2" thick mounting "plate" was used to move the wide front end "back" under the tractor.

Yes, it would do just that, but that isn't why it was made aviable by IH. It's original purpose was to get that front end way the heck out there for all those thousands of beet toppers running around in the sugar beet fields in the '50s.

Oh well. And so it goes,

Allan
