Just got an offer to get 2 years free if I subcribe for 1 year @ $12.95 + $3.00 p/h. Are any of you one of the 442000 that get this magazine. I used to get it 10 -15 years ago along with Farm Journal, Pa. Farmer, American Agriculturist, Hoard's Dairyman, American Veg. Grower etc. I dropped them all except AVG and still get the weekly Farm and Dairy newspaper out of Salem, Ohio. I also get some free or nearly free news letters and papers that are oriented to my operation (retail vegetable production and hay in north east US). As I recall the best part of SF were the handy hints sent in by readers. $16 for 3 years is not going to break me but do you think it is worth it for my operation. I don't need 36 more magazines piling up. (Anyone want to buy 40+ years of national Geographic?)

Dropped them years ago after the free subs ran out, because they were worth every penny I paid for them. They have been shooting themselves in the foot for years- catering to the 'get big or get out crowd'. Who will they sell to when the last one left is Melvin Grabacre? Just another medium for big-time advertisers. Way better sources of info, without the garbage. And the handy tips? Mostly reruns, or stuff you can figure out for yourself. And monthly/beyond weather predictions? How technologically advanced is that? Won't change reality anyway. Each month- tear out the pages you think are relevant to your operation- compare them to the ads. What do you keep- 1-2-3 pages?

I agree with the guy who said "with the internet who needs magazines.Besides that Ive got so many magazines in the attic now the house is probably reasdy to collapse. Then again you cant take the computer into the bathroom with you so you need at least one monthly mag.

I dropped my subscription about a year ago. They can't decide if they want to be a magazine for agri-business or a magazine for touchy-feely country yuppies. When I open it up, I want to know what the markets are doing and what their take is on the soybean rust issue, not how some soccer-moms should be spending quality time with the kiddies while Daddy's out grooming the horse. Important issues, sure, but for another magazine. And there's my old rant that you've all seen me express here before: Why do they have to start whining about re-subscribing after you've recieved only one or two issues? Let me enjoy the magazine for a while before you start nagging me and playing games like "buy 2 years and get one year free plus a new hat and a chance to win a new tractor!" Sorry, I'll try to be careful as I get down off my soapbox now. Jim.

Pretty much agree; subscribed for many years, but when I (pretty much) retired I dropped it. They've continued to send it for free for about 3 or 4 years. Subscription hardly covers the mailing anyway; advertisers pay the freight..... ...

Couple of shows on rfdtv that I watched gave lessons on what type of horse NOT to get. Allan should watch these, and then make sure to buy a horse of that caliber, guaranteed the missus will get tired of horses real quick!

didnt you guys know we "farmers" dont exist. and the magazines are all owned by UPtown businesses interested only in profit --- example FarmProgress (prairie farmers) owned by walt disney... so guess what happens.. start charging to get into there shows and .. then drop 2 of them "BECAUSE WE DIDNT MAKE A PROFIT AT THAT SIGHT" never be in INDIANA again.. or southern Illions.
