D.L.'s suggestion is a good one. I've had sucess with pure vinegar soaking for 4-6 days, take out any aluminum/pot metal, cheap and easy.

One of our local radiator shops will clean & coat a gas tank for what I think is a reasonable price... although if you were to do it yourself, you might save a bit of money. I like the convenience of dropping the tank off & then picking it up a day or so later... problem solved. In the past, I bought a kit from Eastwood & coated a tank myself... kit was approx $50.00... tank must be cleaned & coated in ADEQUATE ventilation (outside) and, must be done when temps are above 50 - 60 degrees for about 3 days... When you consider all that, plus the handling & disposal of corrosive chemicals, I think I'm money (and time) ahead to let the rad shop have at it!!! HTH
regards, D.L.

Another way is to put alot of bbs[beebees]alright bird shot or small nails and then shake the tank vigorously. But nobody does that anymore because the local radiator shop does such a nice job.His coating is a redish color and is really adhered to the tank. One thing once you paint you cant get any tank sealer on the tank paint finish.Seal before painting or completly protct the painted tank. The sealer will ruin any paint it gets on.Also alcohol fuel sealer is diferent from gasoline sealer.
