i finally took the inspection plate off the trans and just my luck i shattered a pinion gear which operates reverse and the reasin why i could not get into c or d range is because a piece of the gear had gottin stuck in the shifting forks. has anyone else ever experienced this problem and if so about how much would it cost in parts if did the work myself.

sounds like what happend to our 4630 back in '81.

the 2 small bolts at the front of the transmition pull backward when you are in reverse--when they get a bit old or strained POP! and that drops that shaft down... you might have a range or 2 as we did.. but dont move it far... the farther you go the more damage you do... and it cost us-- 18,000 in 1981.....

Sounds like exactly what hapened to our 4440 a couple years ago. Transmission gear broke a tooth. About $12,000 repair later and it's back at home ready for another 4000 hours hopefully.
