Spend a little more and find a 5288. Same power, but a lot more tractor. The 88 series came with the pressure lubercated (spelling) transmission and rearend. Built a lot heavier and lots of power for the money. I've worked on them and if your going to work them the 88 series is just a lot longer life tractor.. Don

you can take this for what it is worth from a john deere feller. i have only been around 2 1566's one was owned by a friend of mine an the other was owned by the gentlemen who rents our farm, both of them had bad rearends in them. something to do with the plantiery gear sets in them, were not strong enough. maybe that was only 2 out of many but they were the only 2 i was around an they both had problems, had good power an ran great. johndeeregene

Hi Billy,

Probably right on the money unless the clock has wrapped around the peg a time or two.

All tractors will need a set of tires sooner or later, but I start gettin' a little shaky when they read 7500 to 10K hours on the meter.

Now come on, Ed- your cousin just fell into that deal, and realistically, anyone that can get that many horsepower for that price deserves some credit. . .

Hi Mike,

Ya got that one right.

I just bought one for $3500, but I fully expect to drop another $6500 on it before it is right with the world (and I 'taint gotta buy tires).

Plus, that 1566 is just a tad more snorty. :>)
