It"s 10 degrees out, went to move some snow with my db 1210. The clutch seemed very stiff, and when it started the loader groaned excessively, then it blew the cap off the hydraulic resevoir. Could this be that I have an awful lot of water in my system? What am I up against in fixing this. I don"t have a heated barn or garage. Is it simply draining and refilling with clean fluids? I"ve also heard from some who say the external hydraulic filter that I have on my return line are not worth it. Any other input?

Lots of things could be going on here, Elmer, over on the Case Board is the guru of DB's. Try posting over there, he's forgotten more about these than most folks ever know.

Water can be a real problem on these. Shifter boots leak, top cover lets water in if seal is bad (seam right under seat). If you have water in it and a loader, need to blow out the lines to get it out (been there, done that). I'd keep the pressure filter, these hydraulic systems are more pickey than most.

Stiff clutch is just cold grease (clutch runs dry in a 1210). At 10 degrees F, I warm mine up for 20 mins before use at 1400 rpm to warm the oil before moving the hydraulics.

First of all this is just fundamental hydraulics, not David Brown. The groan sounds to me like the noise that is made with pump caviation, In other words your hydraulic oil is too thick for the weather and the pump calls for more fluid than what actually gets in the pump. The dip stick blowing off. Somewhere your hydraulic reservoir has to have a vent which normally has a breather with a filter element. If it is plugged or froze from moisture (snow?) air has to get out, so the path of least resistance for the unit was the pressure poped the dip stick off. I have seen this several times on another brand. Warm weather everything weas fine, Zero weather it was not fine. Moisture in hydraulic oil will have a milky appearance. Do you have David Brown Operators manual? Questions?
