Where can I find some info on replaceing the brakes on my 860. I tried adjusting them but I think that the pads are shot. Thanks

I assume that's an 860 Ford. You probably don't need a manual to do the brakes, but you may find other stuff you want to do while your in there, such as axle seals.

Search the Ford board archives, you'll find plenty of posts on "brakes" to get you started.

A couple of things the manual won't tell you:

1. The pivot pins that hold the brakes shoes on the backing plate will be stuck. They will come out with a little work, it just takes patience.

2. There are two return springs on the right hand brakes, but only one on the left hand. This is nothing to worry about.

The brake parts are readily available from you New Holland Dealer, although a little more expensive than you might think. The drums are quite expensive, as I recall. The little metal plugs that go in the adjuster holes are overpriced; replace them with standard rubber plugs from the auto parts store which work better anyway.

By the way, the best manual for this tractor is the Ford factory manual which is out of print. I believe you can get reprints from a seller on Ebay.

An I&T repair manual will do. They are available here or just about anywhere tractor parrts are sold.
