I see from a post yesterday the wide front ends on the farmall M tractors are rather pricey. I bought a wide front end a while back at an auction for around 75.00 I guess I did OK. My question is how can you tell if it is an after market or the real thing. Are after market front ends as good as orignal? Thanks, Stan

What a steal!. Can you still buy new wide fronts?. I like wide fronts myself, more stability and if you've ever tried using a narrow front for breaking woods roads for sugaring in the spring in deep snow then you'd understand why I'd like a wide front for our H :')

Some guy,s are in the right place at the right time aren,t they! The orignal front is good at that price but would prefer the swartz but beggers can,t be choosers. A good buy unless it is completely worn out.

Hi Stan,

If you bought a wide front for an M for $75, I'm not gonna mess with ya, 'cause I know you must be packin'and one bad dude! :>)

The first photo is a picture of an original wide. Note all the cast iron and the tie rods out in front of the axle.

Actually, the aftermarket Swartz front ends are very good, tie rods are behind the axle and they turn a heck of a lot shorter than the originals did. But, they have a somewhat "homemade" appearance and are constructed from all steel.

The second picture is of my H with a Swartz ($813 front-end delivered without the wheels or tires).

Mornin' Stan,

If you have that spacer plate and it isn't cracked or welded up in any way, around here the yards are asking between $500 and $800.

Spacer plate? You can't mean the one that makes it an adjustable wheelbase? Please point it out to me - I've been bought for a lot less =)
